First off,you should buy several stalls from Choco Bill, i'd say you should buy about four stalls. Then can start capturing chocobos four at a time.

Heres a List of where to different Chocobos

Chocobo Ranch- Poor,Weak
Junon- Fair,Poor
Gold Saucer- Good,Average
Rocket Town- Mediocre
Wutai- Average,Fair
Icicle Inn- Wonderful,Weak
Mideel- Great,Fair

You can raise chocobos levels by feeding them special greens that you get from Choco Billy and the Chocobo Sage(located on the Northern continent)The absolute best green to feed your chocobos are the Sylkis greens you can get from the Chocobo Sage.

To get Special Chocobos, the only nuts you'll ever need are about 10 Carob nuts(you can steal them from Vlakorados located by Bone Village) and about 5 Zeio nuts (you can steal from Goblins in the Goblin Island).

To get a Mountain or River chocobo, catch two good or great chocobos each of the different sex and race them until there S class racers(for best odds). Then, breed them together with a Carob nut. You have about a 50/50 chance of getting a Mountain or River chocobo so you can either get two more good or great chocobos and do all the other crap again or just wait and breed the other two again.

Once youve gotten one Mountain and one River chocobo each of the oppisite sex, then your ready to breed a Mountain-River chocobo(black). Race the parents untill they are S class racers(for best odds) and then breed them with a Carob nut.

Now that you have a Black chocobo capture a wonderful chocobo and race it until its S class(same for the black one). Then breed them together with a Zeio nut.
Congrats! your the new owner of a Gold Chocobo!!!!

What To Do With Them

Once you have a Gold chocobo or the other special ones you can visit various materia caves and the ancient forest early on. Materia that you can get with chocobos are Mime-HP<->MP-Quadra Magic- and Knights of the Round. Knights of the Round summon is worth all the breeding alone!! At the right level.. this summon can cause up to 70,000 points of damage, plus it looks SWEET!!!

With a Gold chocobo, you can also visit the Ancient Forest before fighting Ultimate WEAPON. There you can pick up great items and weapons, and the summon Typhoon.

Just in case your somewhat weary about spending all that time and money on breeding... IT IS VERY WORTH IT!!!!!
