Artemis: Chapter Three
"Die,"
The stranger spoke in its exotic, grating voice, pointing at Artemis as it spoke.
Cloud immediately stepped in front of his daughter, determined to protect his only child. "Get the hell away from her," he growled.
"The girl must die," the stranger began, "for others to live."
Elsewhere, the dark force sleeping within the Nibelheim Mountains awoke, blasting out of its pod; a pod that was identical to the one found in the Corel Mines. The dark, ominous creatue stepped out of the now-shattered pod, stretching out its muscles. The creature looked up at the high stalactite covered ceiling. A normal human would never get out of the cavern. The cavern was round with a high ceiling, no doors or exits of any kind were to be found in this prison of cold stone.
The creature went into a crouch, charging up its internal energy. The creature began to glow with an angry blue aura. Once the creature was ready, it straightened, bent its knees a bit, and jumped. The creature's jump had enough momentum behind it to cause itto fly at break-neck speeds. Its increased speed caused it to breask right through the ceiling without suffering any damage. The creature continued its wild flight toward the Corel Mines, its keen senses detecting the girl's energy at the Mines.
Cloud glowered at the stranger, not backing down in the least. Expecting the black-clad stranger to attack, Barret and Cid had their weapons ready.
The attack never came.
The stranger turned around sharply, as if he sensed something coming. In the distance, an armored warrior was heading their way. He was but a speck of black, almost totally hidden by the glare of the sunlight. But, as the warrior continued speeding toward the Mines, his shape got bigger and more well-defined. The warrior was small, only five feet tall, had jet black hair that was extremely long and wild-flowing. His eyes were blood-red, and the whites of his eyes were bloodshot. His facial features were angular, and he was clean-shaven. His armor was blood-red and appeared lightweight. The most notbale feature on his armor were the shoulder pads, which were extremely long and went out to about a half-foot out in either direction.
"Its too late," the black-clad stranger said to Cloud, "he's here,"
"Huh?" Cloud asked, confused.
"Look, that warrior headed for us is after your kid," the stranger snapped at him, "He wants to absorb her energy so he can become more powerful. He is already more powerful than I am, and I was the one who imprisioned him!"
"So why did you want to kill my daughter?" Cloud retorted.
"So he wouldn't absorb her!"
The dark force from the Nibelheim Mountains flew through the air, increasing his speed as he saw the black-clad stranger talking to some pokey-haired man. The warrior adjested his blood-red armor, determined to kill the black-clad stranger and absorb the girl.
The warrior landed on the ground with a loud thud. "Give me the girl, Sorener." the armored warrior said sharply to the black-clad stranger.
"Not without a fight, El-sorker," the black-clad stranger, Sorener, replied evenly.
"You're not getting my daughter," Cloud growled at the armored warrior.
"Hey, spikey," Sorener whispered to Cloud, "maybe we should team up. El-sorker is a very powerful opponent."
"Yeah," Cloud agreed, "he seems very powerful,"
"Look, I know how he fights. He is very direct, but fast. Always attack him from behind. He's too fast to attack from the front or the side. If you attack him from those areas, he'll just dodge. There's no way to hit him directly. Only rear attacks even have a chance of nailing him."
"Got it,"
"Your sword isn't fast enough to hit him before he reacts and dodges, even if you attack from the rear. So you should go for slashing at his legs while I attack his head and midsection. He can't stop both our attacks at once."
"Yeah,"
"Go ahead, whisper all you want," sneered El-sorker, "All your planning won't help you. I will absorb the girl and destroy you,"
Barret and Cid, hearing the plan Sorener and Cloud had concocted, moved up to join them. Artemis, sword in hand, silent as a cat, snuck up behind El-sorker, katana poised for a stab.
Cloud slashed at El-sorker's legs, while Sorener whipped out two punches; one aimed for El-sorker's abdomen, the other aimed for the head. El-sorker whipped his arms to block, preventing the blow aimed for his head from hitting. He managed to jump Cloud's slash, but took the punch to his abdomen. Artemis struck with all her might, impaling El-sorker with her sword, the slender blade poking out of the warrior's stomach. Artemis extracted the bloddy blade, watching the warrior slump to his knees.
Cid rushed in, impaling his spear into El-sorker's left shoulder. El-sorker, proud and strong, didn't scream, only grunted, as he felt the spear rip through muscle and bone. Barret, gun dishing out loads of ammo, trained his sighted at El-sorker, bullets ripping into the warrior's armor.
El-sorker, wounded and heavily damaged, coughed up several pints of blood, glared at Cloud, and then, to everyone's surprise, stood up. "Don't think this is over yet!" El-sorker growled. The wounded warrior flew up into the air, a trail of red light following him as he zipped into the sky.
"Thanks," Cloud said, sheathing his sowrd. Artemis did likewise; Barret lowering his gun-arm and Cid resting his spear on his shoulder.
Sorener removed his helmet, shaking out his long, flowing blue hair. His facial features were very striking, even rougishly handsome. Angled jaw, high cheekbones, and his ghostly pale skin only accentuated his blue hair. His eyes were also very striking; his eyes were a deep, penetrating purple with flecks of silver within them.
"I guess I should explain why I wanted to kill your daughter," Sorener said, his voice melodic and harmonic. Seeing the confusion on Cloud, Cid, and Barret's faces, Sorener explained, "The helmet makes may voice kinda scratchy. That's why I sounded weird earlier."
"Oh," Cid remarked dryly.
"By the way," Cloud said, extending his hand to the blue-haired man, "my name's Cloud Strife."
Sorener shook Cloud's hand warmly, "Name's Sorener."
"I'm Barret," the burly gun-arm equipped man said, "He's Cid," Barret pointed to the pilot.
Artemis, blushing as she looked at Sorener's handsome face, tried to stutter an introduction. "Hi, uh, my name is Artemis. Artemis Strife,"
"Pleased to meet all of you," Sorener replied. "You probably want to know what my intentions are and my motives. And who that guy we fought was," Sorener stated, to the nods of the others. "Well, it began long ago, in another solar system.........."
