Artemis: Chapter One
Sixteen years pass after the final defeat of Sephiroth and Cloud's rescue from his own tormented mind. Cloud and Tifa were married and had a young daughter named Artemis. Like her mother, Artemis had the kind, caring attitude, and the, ahem, assets. She had the blond hair and blue eyes of her father. She was an excellent cook and a brilliant swordswoman. Her favored weapon was a katana. Her choice of weaponry worried Cloud and Tifa, as they knew that Sephiroth wielded a katana-like weapon when he was alive. And so, a new adventure begins for Cloud and his family.....
Artemis, long blond hair flying wildly in the wind, continued her climb up the face of one of the largest mountains on the Planet: Mount Nibel. She had persuaded Cid to loan his airship to her for a while so that she could come up here. She enjoyed the crisp, cool air of the mountain peaks, and the climb was just half the fun. She always came up here when she wanted to be alone; she loved her parents very much, as well as her family's close friends, but she, as a typical teenager, needed some time alone every now and then.
Artemis drew out her katana form its scabbard at her right hip, holding the blade in her left hand. She went into a series of slow, balanced, and practiced attack maneuvers. She was a great fighter, agile and strong. Her attacks were always calculated, ensuring that she rarely misses her target. And her battle prowess and resourcefulness were awesome in the extreme.
After completing another attack combo, she sat down on the cool, green grass and examined her sword. It was five feet long, delicately curved, with a fine chiseled point. A smaller version of Sephiroth's blade. She had heard stories about the evil man, but felt that just because she chose to use the katana, doesn't mean she wants to be like him.
She ran her hand down the length of the steel blade. Its metal had been folded four hundred times, making the blade tremendously strong and nearly unbreakable. She had put the sword to good use in the past years of her life as a monster hunter. She had killed many evil monsters, but never any humanoids. Artemis had made a reputation for herself as a beautiful, though deadly, fighter.
Artemis ran her slender fingers down the white handle of her sword. The handle was intricately carved from the best ivory, its pommel shaped into the likeness of a dragon.
Artemis stood back up, brushed the dirt and grass from the seat of her pants, and began the climb back down the mountain.
A dark force was sleeping within the Nibelheim Mountains, a force so evil that there is no good in it at all. It sensed the presence of a powerful human.....a girl? It had lived its life absorbing only the most powerful of creatures. This girl was more powerful than anything it had ever encountered. Unfortunately, her true power had yet to be released, for it was still dormant. To absorb such awesome power........
Artemis slammed open the swinging doors of the Seventh Heaven Bar, her home. The doors hit the walls with a loud slam, but none of the Bar's patrons even flinched; they had all gotten used to Artemis's grand entrances.
"Hi, Tela!" Artemis said cheerily to a small, old woman who was sitting at the bar table, chugging down her hundredth mug of beer. The old woman merely grunted, drunk like a skunk.
"Art, how many times do I have to tell you: don't slam the door!" Tifa scolded, walking into the main room, carrying a tray piled with mugs. Tifa was a little older, and wiser, but still in her prime. Only a few wrinkles around her eyes marked her age. Cloud came in next, her was still young looking as well, just like his wife. He, too, had only a few small wrinkles around his eyes.
"Hey, Art!" he greeted to his daughter. Artemis threw her arms around her father's neck hugging him. She saw that her mother was bus with the tray, so she kissed her on the cheek, and got another tray from the bar and started transferring mugs from Tifa's tray to hers.
"Thanks, dear," her mother said to her, moving to a table and setting mugs down.
"No prob, Mom," Artemis replied, moving to the same table and setting down drinks for the patrons sitting there.
"Hey, Tifa, I'm going over to North Corel. Barret said that there was a problem with the mines, and that he needs Cid and me to help him." Cloud said, already moving to the door.
"All right, but don't get home to late. Dinner will be ready in about two hours,"
"Hey, Mom, can I go with Dad?" Artemis asked.
"Sure, have fun,"
Artemis threw a hug around her mother's neck before saying thanks and exiting the bar with her father.
Another dark force was awakening, sensing the rising power in the Nibelhiem
Mountains. This new dark force was lying in wait in North Corel.
