"The most anticipated game of all time," is what Japan is saying. In Japan in case you don't know, Pokemon Red and Blue are the biggest selling games of all time. So it would figure that Japan is eagerly awaiting the next installment of Pokemon.
The next set of games are called Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver. This game will host a load of new improvements and features. First off there are more Pokemon, 250 in all. So if you thought catching 150 of them was hard, just imagine 250!!! Also you can catch, find and breed Pokemon. See how each Pokemon has it's own gender, and if you find a male and a female Pokemon then...well you know, you get a baby Pokemon. This Pokemon will be more powerful according to the stats of the mother and father of the Pokemon. So if you have two very strong Pokemon, you can guarantee that when the baby Pokemon grows up it will be more powerful than it's parents. Even though this has not been comfirmed, breeding could be how to get some Pokemon. So when the two parents breed, a new Pokemon is born. This is just a rumor that is flying around though.
The game also has a time system so there is day and there is night. To add more to this system there are nocturnal and durnal Pokemon. So lets say you go to Pallet city in the day and you find some Pokemon. You could come back to the same spot at night and find different Pokemon. Also this will require you to have more strategy when choosing what Pokemon to take because nocturnal Pokemon sleep during the day, and durnal Pokemon sleep during the night.
Trading and battling will still be a big part of the game. There will be the usual trading between the gold and silver paks, but what about between the gold/silver and the red/blue paks. What is known so far is that you can trade between the paks if they consist of the original 150. Also the same may be true for battling too. This could change if the programmers put a cache in the game that made the Red and Blue paks recognize other Pokemon.
When is Pokemon going to be released in the United States? No release date has been confirmed, but my guess is it will come around the holidays in Japan, which would make the release date here about March, or April of 2000.. All we can do right now is wait and dream about Pokemon Gold and Silver. Final Note: The game will be compatible with Game Boy Color.
