Goku

Goku was born on the planet Vegeta. Born with a weak power level of 4-5, the Saiyans sent him on a relatively easy mission. They sent him to prep the planet Earth for the Planet Trade. Upon arrival on Earth, Goku was found by a peaceful elderly man named Gohan. At first Goku was a little hellion. One day Goku fell off a cliff and badly injured his head. From that day forth Goku was a peaceful and loving child. Gohan trained Goku in the martial arts. Goku's power level continues to increase as he grows older and trains harder. In the battle against Frieza, Goku is the first Saiyan to turn Super Saiyan in 1000 years. He is also the first Saiyan to reach Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan 4.

Goten

Goten is Goku's other son. Goten is born around the same time as Trunks and the become really good friends. He is a very powerful Saiyan who reaches Super Saiyan at the early age of 7.

Vegeta

Vegeta was the Prince of the planet Vegeta. The Saiyan race mostly worked for Frieza by conquering planets for the Planet Trade. Vegeta was just a young boy when the planet Vegeta was destroyed by Frieza. He was taken in by Frieza. For the following years he worked for Frieza for a long time. He ultimately planned to rule the universe after he became powerful enough to overthrow Frieza. After hearing about the Dragon Balls on Earth from Raditz's scouter he set out for Earth along with Nappa. On this planet he met his match, Goku. From this point on Vegeta becomes one of the good guys and struggles throughout the whole series trying to exceed Goku's power. Vegeta is the only pure blooded Saiyan left besides Goku.

Frieza

Frieza runs the Planet Trade. At the time he is the most powerful fighter until he encounters Goku. Even though Goku is no match for Frieza, he holds his own. Finally after being badly beaten and watching his friend Krillin be destroyed, he becomes a Super Saiyan. Frieza dies trying to kill Goku when he is chopped in half by his own attack.

Gohan

Gohan is the first born son of Goku, named in memory of Goku's adopted grandfather Gohan. In Gohan's early years he was a cry baby, but within him slept a great overwhelming power. Several times Gohan has revealed this power when he is exremely angered. Gohan goes on to be the first to become Super Saiyan 2 during the fight against Cell. Later in the Dragon Ball Z series he becomes The Great Saiyaman, a superhero for the city.

Piccolo

Piccolo starts as Goku's arch nemesis, but later becomes a strong ally. He aids Goku in the defeat of Raditz. After realizing what amazing power Gohan possessed he began to train him in preparation for the arrival of Vegeta and Nappa. The training was brutal but Gohan made it through. Almost all of Gohan's martial arts training came from Piccolo. Piccolo grows to care for Gohan and becomes like a second father to him. If an enemy tries to mess with Gohan they are more likely than not starting a fight with Piccolo.

Brolly

Brolly is the legendary Super Saiyan. Born with a power level of 10,000 he is the most powerful Saiyan ever born. He was supposedly dead but he was not. He came to Earth and fought Goku and the others only to lose.

Cell

Cell is an android that came back in time to kill Goku. At first he is not that strong of fighter and could be easily defeated by even Piccolo. After absorbing the other androids he becomes Perfect Cell. After this occurs he becomes the strongest fighter and almost kill Goku. Wanting to see the extent of Gohan's true inner power, Cell forced him to watch his friends and father get brutally beaten. Android 16 is destroyed by Cell, this tips Gohan over the edge to becoming Super Saiyan 2. Cell then gets destroyed by Gohan's super Kamehaha.

Trunks

Trunks is Vegeta and Bulma's only son. The first appearance of Trunks is when he comes back in time from a distant ruined future. Trunks explains that Goku has a heart disease and will soon die and he has come back in time with the cure, to prevent the ugly future from happening. Trunks helps in the fight against Cell and the other androids before returning to the future. Later after he is born he becomes good friends with Goten and they always seem to get into trouble.
