| ANGLO INDIAN LEAGUE MISSION |
Dear Sister,
This is with reference to Mr.Alfred Mitra's letter in your edition of July 23,1999.
Permit me to take this opportunity to enlighten your readers and Mr.Alfred Mitra that the Anglo-Indian League is not a social, relief, educational or a" flash-in- the- pan" as" many" seem to inform him.No Anglo-Indian thinks it is a flash -in- the -pan.We have 1782 families as members to( date)covering Calcutta,Mumbai.Chennai,Bangalore and Pune.We have families of Anglo-Indians registered from Australia,England,Canada and U.S.A.Maybe non-Anglo-Indians imagine it is a "flash- in- the- pan".
The Anglo-Indian League is not a "gathering of eminent people"(thank heavens) and the "parable"of Mr.Mitra did hurt the feelings of my people.
For the clarification and edification of all readers,well-wishers and especially Mr.Mitra,I am obliged to explain what the Anglo-Indian League represents.Briefly, the A-I League is a Registration body only.
It is a single Banner under which all Anglo-Indians can rally for the love of Unity, regardless of their station in life-even a destitute (if he/she proves he/she is an Anglo-Indian,gets registered). In time to come the Anglo-Indian League will be in a position to give correct statistics of the community.
The Anglo-Indian League never warns or forbids its members from belonging to any other Anglo-Indian club, group or Association.
Furthermore, the A-I League stands by the Indian Constitution on the definition of Who is an Anglo-Indian?Article 366 of the Constitution.
