flavored lip gloss
Make your own tasty little pots of lip balm, using stuff from around the kitchen and your neighborhood natural food store.
materials:
Small saucepan; glass measuring cup; chopstick or wooden spoon; small plastic or metal container with lid (like a pillbox or an empty lip balm holder, washed and dried); one tablespoon vegetable shortening; one tablespoon canola oil (or any vegetable oil); one teaspoon grated beeswax; 2-4 drops peppermint essential oil.
instructions:
1. Make hot water bath by filling saucepan half full with water. Bring to a boil and set glass measuring cup in water (use a potholder).
2. Put shortening, vegetable oil and beeswax in the cup and stir with chopstick or wooden spoon until melted.
3. Remove cup from water.
4. Stir in peppermint oil.
5. Pour mixture into small container and put the lid on.
6. Set in freezer for a few minutes to cool.
get extra creative:
Add other essential oils like tea tree or lavender.
Melt a candy cane in a hot water bath and add it instead of essential oil.
Add maple syrup or honey.
Add a little bit of melted red lipstick to make colored lip balm.
