Winter Cleaning: Spice Up Your Room Décor
Winter can put a real damper on the brightest of holiday spirits. Let's face it--cold weather just isn't fun. But you don't have to bring all that chilliness into your room--just a few small changes will give your room a complete makeover.
Paint me Sunny
With all that spare time on your hands during winter break, why not paint your room? If you want to, you can completely re-do your walls and ceiling. For a smaller color change, put a wallpaper trim up or use glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling. Hang posters and pictures on your walls to give your room a cozy look. Just make sure that you don't overdo it so your room doesn't look cluttered and confused.
Rearrange
Sometimes, just a few quick changes will do the trick for your room makeover. Move your bed into a new corner--change your drapes--get a new desk--install a bookcase into your wall--all of these things will drastically change the ambience of your room. Try to get matching furniture or color-coordinate your room. Convince your parents to let you change the design of your bedspread and decorate your room according to that design.
Knick-Knacks
If your room looks drab and dull, introduce some colorful knick-knacks to the scene. A well-placed rug, musical box and even a potted plant can do wonders. Surround yourself with items that you love to see--framed pictures, childhood mementos and small figurines will breathe life into your room.
Shopping
If you don't feel like doing a complete overhaul of your room, concentrate on your wardrobe. Throw out or donate any clothes, shoes or accessories that you no longer wear or need. Introduce some new colors into your fashion--if you wear only pink, try blue for a change--or try solid-color shirts instead of plaid--you get the picture. Indulge yourself with a shopping spree and get some trendy clothes that will make you feel self-confident and happy.
