Shy Girls: Respect Yourself
Girls may be made of sugar and spice, but we've also got some much stronger stuff in us. The drive to succeed, determination, a can-do attitude--it's not a man's world out there if you've got those characteristics. But if you're shy and want to speak up, there's a lot you can do for yourself.
Silence Is Not Always Golden
Ever hear the phrase "children should be seen and not heard?" Some girls apply that outdated adage to themselves and keep quiet--even when they shouldn't. Always speak up if you feel violated, harassed, insulted or just want something done your way. Don't be afraid of sounding bossy or conceited--a strong will is essential in the real world to survive.
Know What You Want
What's the secret of the rich and famous? They don't let anybody tell them what to do--and that's why they're so darn popular. Set your goals high and work toward them. It can be something simple like losing ten pounds or more long-distance, like applying to medical school. Don't let your parents and friends make you do what they think is right--only you know what you want.
Your Body Is A Temple
Despite what "Jerry Springer" and Howard Stern may portray, you do not need to bare it all to make it. Don't ever feel obligated to dress sexy if you don't want to-you use your mind, not your body, in a job. Show some respect for your body and stand up to guys who only want you to back that thang up.
Perfect Example
Nobody's perfect, so nobody gets everything right the first time. Changing your attitudes about yourself is a difficult process, so don't give up if you feel frustrated. Instead, look up to women who have been there but done it all. Madonna is not a good role model--find a "real" person you can relate to. The inspiration will keep you going.
