These are the medications that i have taken to make me better. They are all types of chemotherapy, and i have also listed the different side effects of each med. If you have any other information about other chemo's and their side effects, please mail me. I want to make this list as big as possible. If anyone has information on the side effects of radiation, please mail me. Most of the side effects are the same, but different information is given for each drug. -CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE (Cytoxan, Procytox, Cyclo) 1. Low blood counts in 7-14 days which can last up to 21 days after the drug is given 2. Stomach/Bowel Upset (vomiting, nausea, etc.) 3. Mouth Sores 4. Affects to the Reproductive System 5. Bladder problems -ADRIAMYCIN (Doxorubicin) 1. Low blood counts, blood transfusion may be needed 2. Skin irritation if the drug leaks into surrounding tissue 3. Stomach/Bowel Upset 4. Heart problems, may cause permanent damage, regular heart checks are given 5. Skin changes: skin redness may occur where radiation has been given 6. Urine: turns a reddish color -VP-16 (etoposide, Vepesid) 1. Low blood counts, more at risk for infection 2. Allergic reaction: very severe if happens 3. Cardiovascular problems: low blood pressure etc. 4. Stomach/Bowel upset 5. Skin irritation: if drug leaks into surrounding veins or tissue, redness occurs -CARBOPLATIN (Paraplatin, CBDCA) 1. Low blood counts: may cause bruising and bleeding 2. Stomach/Bowel Upsets: Nausea will occur with this drug 3. Liver: liver enzymes may rise and will be monitored 4. Kidney: may cause kidney damage, but usually isn't severe * NOTE: All of these symptoms may occur, but every child is different, so every reaction is different. All of these drugs also cause hair loss, but hair will grow back when treatment is done. |
