| The Country The People's Republic of Bangladesh Location A delta country situated on the Bay of Bengal Sharing borders with India and Burma Area 148,393 sq.km. Population 124 million (density around 800 persons pe sq. km. Language Mainly Bangla and English is widely spoken. Religion Predominantly a muslim country (88%) with 10% Hindu's some Buddhist and Christians. Capital City Dhaka Climate Monsoon. Winter (Nov.-Feb) temperatures between 8-29 celcius, mostly dry. Summer (May - Sept) Temperatures between 15- 38 celcius, the wet season. Relief Mostly flat (average height-15m above sea level) making the country very prone to flooding. Principle Rivers Ganges, Brahmaputra, Meghna- the three largest rivers which are joined by over 200 tributaries. |
