The Stranger

Chapter 1
Lara sat there with her mother and father both at her sides. She stared up at the sky. It was pitch black, scattered with stars. She then looked down at her mother. She had always thought that her mother was pretty. She had long, straight, silky hair, which was jet black in colour. But the most amazing thing, Lara thought, were her mum’s eyes. They were big, with long black eyelashes, and the colour was an amazing sapphire colour.
People had always said that she looked just like her mother, in that her hair was just as black and silky (although not quite as long yet) and her eyes were the same too, but an even more amazing shade of blue and even more sparkling.
She then turned to her father. She looked nothing like him. He had brown hair, and hazel eyes. Though she wasn’t unlike him at all. It was their personalities that made them so alike. Lara was so calm and easy going, it took a lot to make her angry. This she had inherited from her Dad.
She loved her Mum and Dad so much. She didn’t have anyone else to love. She had no brothers or sisters, and her mother and father never talked of any Grandmas or Grandads, or any Uncles, Aunties or cousins. And her mother and father loved her back. They gave her so much love and attention, although she wasn’t spoilt at all.
The three of them had just had a barbeque, eaten it, and then just talked late into the night. It wasn’t cold sitting outside on the patio, it was a warm night and they could hear the cricket chirping in the bushes. The only light was that of the pool. The lights were under the water, shining through. The water was so still and beautiful, Lara longed to jump in.
“Come on Lara,” said her Dad, “how about a swim?”
“What,” Lara laughed, “with my clothes on? You must be joking!”
“Yeah with your clothes on, come on!” he replied.
Lara’s Mum laughed.
“No,” Lara smiled, “I’d better not.”
“Oh well,” her Dad smiled, “I suppose I’ll have to make you!”
Lara screamed as her Dad lifted her up over his shoulder and ran over to the pool.
“Oi!” Lara screamed whilst in fits of laughter. She smacked him playfully.
“Have a nice swim!” her Dad laughed as her threw Lara in.
“You meanie!” she laughed as she gave him the evil eye.
Her Mum laughed.
“Don’t think you’re getting away with it!” Lara’s Dad laughed as he ran over to her and picked her up in his arms, the way the hero would when he had saved the damsel in distress.
“You wouldn’t dare!” she grinned.
“I would!” he smiled as he threw her in.
She screamed as she fell into the water. She came up, her hair and clothes all soaking wet. She looked at Lara and they both grinned.
“Let’s get him!” Lara said as they both moved as fast as they could to where Lara’s Dad was standing. They both grabbed him from the side and he too came tumbling into to he water. He came up from the water grinning.
“Serves you right!” laughed Lara and splashed her Dad.
“Hey!” he called and splashed her back playfully.
Lara’s Mum splashed them both. “Give up the pair of you!” she said in a silly high-pitched voice and slashed them both.
The water fight went late on into the night.
