| 1. Did romance bloom? Were the castaways allowed to pair off or get involved in physical relationships? Answer: Yes, a couple does form. It was up to them as to whether they wanted to attract on their attraction. 2. What kinds of challenges are there? Answer: There are two kinds. One is a "reward challenge," in which castaways competed for luxuries, such as a phone call home or a hot shower. The second is an "immunity challenge," in which castaways competed for the most valuable prize--immunity from being voted off the island at Tribal Council. The winning team of an "immunity challenge" did not have to vote one of its own off at the end of the episode, while the losing team did. Occasionally, the "reward" and "immunity" challenges were combined: winners received both a reward and immunity from having to vote. 3. Will there always be two teams? Answer: No. Beginning in episode seven, the two teams merge. The remaining castaways, now accustomed to thinking of each other as the "other team" or "enemy," will come to live together as individuals. At that point, the challenges become person against person, as opposed to team against team; only the winning individual will receive a reward and/or immunity. 4. Was communication from the outside world allowed at all? Answer: No. These people were truly castaways on a remote island. The exception may be a single phone call home, given to a winning castaway as a "luxury reward" for a specific challenge. 5. What happened to the castaway when he or she was voted off the island? Upon being voted out, the castaway has the opportunity to make one final comment to the television cameras, which airs during the end credits of the show. At that point, the castaway is no longer part of the show; however, that castaways was at least able to take a shower and to get a hot meal immediately! 6. What kind of accommodations did the production crew have? Answer: The production crew was housed nearby in huts built specifically for this production. Although they did have shelter, they were roughing it too compared to most customary standards: Most of them didn't even have hot water for their showers! |
