It has been a very interesting trip for the team, crew, and actors from Final Fantasy: The Movie. Since it was announced as a major Square undertaking in November of 1998, there has been no end to rumors and the basic request for knowlegde regarding the project. Finally, this week, A huge piece of information on the movie has been broken off. It may not be everything you want to know, but at least it should provide you with some 100% true information on the movie itself, and you can stop listening to all the rumors.

First off, The Official Movie Website has opened. There you will be able to find limited information on the project, 2 short trailers, and information on a mailing list for any news released on the project. To those of you that have seen the trailers, YES, that is Computer Animation. According to many sources, the animation has been so realistic that the site has recieved hundreds of emails regarding the medium for the movie. Now onto the good stuff. The complete 411, (so far), on the movie itself.

PRODUCTION:
Studio: Columbia Pictures
Director: Hironobu Sakaguchi
Original Story: Hironobu Sakaguchi
Screenplay: Al Reinert (Apollo 13) and Jeff Vintar (Iron Man)
Assistant Directors: Michael Gibson and Takahiko Akiyama
Art Direction: Hiroyuki Seshita
Animation Director: Andy Jones

CAST:
Gray (The Hero): Alec Baldwin
General Hein: James Woods
Dr. Sid: Donald Sutherland
Nick: Steve Buscemi
Ryan: Ving Rhames
Aki: Ming Na Wen (Mulan)
Jane: Peri Gilpin (Frasier)
Unknown Role: Dwight Schultz (Lt. Barclay from Star Trek: NG)

BACK STORY: "Set on Earth in the year 2065, destruction and confusion surround us. Cities are deserted, the population is decimated, and the precious few humans who remain must find a way to survive. In this world, we face death as we part with our loved ones. We begin to question what "life" and "love" is, and what is the philosophical definition of the "heart." After all in this world, science has analyzed life and death, expressing life as a form of energy. Beyond the riveting battle scenes, Final Fantasy will take you on a journey of personal discovery into both the real and fantasy worlds, drawing you deep into its characterizations and themes: love, friendship, dreams, adventure, life and death."

UNCONFIRMED: There will be none of the usual Final Fantasy elements involved in the movie, such as magic and, *gasp*, Chocobos! Also, as I mentioned above, the movie will take place on Earth, and not on an alternate world.

RELEASE: Although the release date has continually been slated as Spring 2001, rumors reported by our friends at Square Gamer say that the movie may be out in time for the holiday season 2000.

Hopefully this will be enough information to hold you for a few weeks, until Columbia Pictures makes their own "official" announcements as to various elements of the movie. As always stay tuned to FFOnline for any exciting developments!
