| The Perfect Habitat For Your New Green Anole(s) |
Green anoles thrive in their perfect enviornment.
With a bad one, they will get stressed and possibly get sick and die.
Now since you know the proper size for their aquarium, you now need to know what to put in it!
Green anoles love to climb. In the wild love to climb on low-level branches of bushes and trees.
The aquarium must have lots of sticks and plants for them to climb and bask on. On the bottom/floor of the tank must be soil or gravel.
Another good choice for a substarate is wood chips!
Wood chips will keep the humidity in the tank and at the same time let the air circulate. The only problem with wood chips is that crickets like to hide in it. If you add a shalow sterile layer of potting soil, you may add a plant right into the soil/bark.
What kind of plant? A potho is an excellent plant to keep!
Your anoles will greatly appreciate one and will hide, sleep and bask in one. Differnt kinds of ivys will work.
A plant called philodendron is nice for them to get shade and frolic in the leaves.
Keep any plant away from direct light not to burn the leaves.
A couple of spider plant sprigs. It is strong, grows well and holds water.
You may want to have a small water dish for them (or a pop bottle cap) but will need to spray area anyways (further explained in diet).
The aquarium will need an incandecant light bulb (about 60 watts)
lamp with a screen so they can't get out the top.
You may also use an infa-red heat lamp on a screen.
Another possibility is having a cover on the aquarium with two bulbs (25-40 watt depending on aquarium size).
In any case, the basking spot (on a stick) must be allowed to go up to 90-93F, with a shady/cooler spot down to 80-82 degrees.
You may choose to put a full spectrum fluorescent light into the top of the aquarium too. This will simulate natural sunlight which they need to synthesize their own vitamin D3 to make calcium.
The light should be on for the day, 12-14 hours.
To keep the light's on/off time constant, you may choose to put the lights on a timer. |
