| The Perfect Diet For Your Green Anole(s) |
First, let's start with water.
Water is very important to every living creature. Even the smallest! Green anoles need water offered every day. For anoles, the best way to do this is to use a spray bottle; spray the sides of the aquarium and plant leaves 2-3 times/day. They will lap up the water and enjoy it!
Their favourite food is the cricket. Crickets can be purchased at your pet store by the dozen ($1-2). They should be fed once a day (1 cricket) or 1-2 crickets every other day. Make sure the crickets are smaller than the anoles head. Preferably they would be half the size of the anole's head. Pinheads are baby crickets. You can feed your anoles a couple pinheads/day. The crickets can be left in a container and misted as well for water, and fed small bits of carrot, potatoe, lettuce, cabbage, and other greens.
Another of the anoles' favorites is mealworms and waxworms. You can also buy these at the pet store cheaply, but only buy the SMALL ones (babies). You anoles may choke on the larger ones. They can fed occasionally as a substitute to crickets, but not as their main diet, as they're quite fatty. It's best to feed them after the worms have shed, and are white.
You may also feed your anoles moths and houseflies caught away from pesticides and high-pollution areas; these still have the potential of being harmful. They will have fun catching them, and you'll have fun watching! Another occasional choice is baby food. Most anoles will try licking some peach or apricot baby food; you can mix in some honey or plain yogurt on a small dish, leaving it in no longer than a day.
Crickets should be dusted with a multi-vitamin powder with calcuium a few times a week, or every other serving. You can dust the crickets with it (shake 'n' bake) or sprinkle some in their baby food. "Pregnant" mothers and babies need a lot of calcium. Keep giving females calcium at every serving after she's laid an egg. Newborns also need calcium in their diet. They will eat pinheads and fruitflies shortly after hatching.
Don't forget to mist!
