Goku must how face Vegeta, the prince of the planet Vegeta, the strongest Saiyan warrior, and a villain so ruthless he destroyed his own partner, Nappa, for being injured. When Goku's double Kaio-Ken attack fails, Goku breaks his promise to King Kai and uses the triple Kaio-Ken. Vegeta becomes so angry he decides to blow up the Earth.

Gohan and Krillin are flying to the turtle house when the notice the ball of energy in the sky. They decide to fly back to the battle-scene to check it out. Vegeta begins his transformation into the giant ape like Gohan and all other Saiyans with tails do when they look into the moon. Goku can't transform because his tail got permanently removed. Vegeta completely overpowers Goku. Goku is running for his life.

Goku remembers a scene from when he was little. His grandfather was telling him never to look into the moon, for a giant monster comes and does major damage. Goku tries to attack Vegeta but to no avail. Goku says he his is going to use a triple-strike. King Kai says that he doesn't know if Goku's body can handle a triple-strike. Goku gets batted down. Goku uses Kaio ken. Back at the island Baba, explains to the others that Goku is hurt. An image of Goku laying on the ground appears in the ball. Chi-Chi sees Yajirobe in the ball and gets mad at him. Gohan and Krillin are still flying towards the fight scene. Vegeta beats up on Goku some more while making fun of him. Goku is trying to come up with a way to use the spirit bomb. He uses a solar flare attack that temporarily blinds your opponent. The attack work and Goku flies off a distance to concentrate his energy for the Spirit Bomb. Goku says that it is almost ready. Vegeta starts to regain his sight. He spots Goku. Vegeta charges at Goku just as he is done with bomb. Goku gets hit before he can throw it and the attack is now worthless. Gohan and Krillin see the huge explosion caused by the two fighters.

Goku gets up from the rubble. Vegeta says he is going to step on Goku. He bats him into a wall, then steps on his legs, breaking them. Gohan and Krillin say that Goku's power is fading. Vegita is about to finish off Goku when Goku uses the last bit of energy in himself. It blows out one of Vegeta's eyes. Vegeta pick up Goku and starts to squeeze him to death. Gohan and Krillin are almost there. The two arrive at the scene. Yajirobe notices them and the three go down to a hiding place. The two run up behind Vegeta when Yajirobe stops them. Krillin makes a plan to cut off Vegeta's tail which will make him shrink back to his original state. Yajirobe uses and capsule which holds a cloud car and he leaves them. Vegeta realizes that someone is out there

Vegeta senses someone. Gohan confronts him and tells him to put his dad down.
Krillin powers up a destructo disk. Vegeta is about to kill Goku, when Krillin throws the
destructo disk at Vegeta’s tail, but Vegeta jumps up. Vegeta turns around and tells Krillin he can hear everything with his big ears. Vegeta is crushing Goku with his hand when Yajirobe jumps up, takes out his Katana Blade, and slices Vegeta’s tail off and runs
away. Vegeta turns back into Saiyan stage. Gohan now discovers what tails do. Vegeta
drops Goku on the ground. Vegeta goes up to Gohan and uses his right knee to hit
Gohan’s face, sending Gohan flying back. Vegeta goes up to Gohan and punches his stomach. Krillin attacks Vegeta from behind, but Vegeta turns around and kicks Krillin’s head, sending him flying back, hitting a cliff and falls down. Vegeta grabs Gohan, by Gohan’s collar. Meanwhile, at Roshi’s house Chi Chi is jumping up and down yelling fight him Gohan. Vegeta walks down to the cliff and throws Gohan down next to his father. Goku regains consciousness and tells Gohan he is Earth’s only hope. Then Vegeta comes down and sticks his right knee into Goku’s stomach. Gohan gets mad.

Gohan powers up and makes a blast at Vegeta, but Vegeta flies up. Krillin goes
to Goku. Gohan and Vegeta are in the air dodging each others punches. Goku gives
Krillin some of his energy left from the spirit bomb. Vegeta hits Gohan to the ground.
Gohan gets up, but Vegeta hits Gohan back down. Gohan and Vegeta continue to fight.
Vegeta shoots a fireball at Gohan, but Gohan dodges it. Gohan does about 10
Kamehameha’s, but Vegeta dodges them all. Meanwhile, Krillin is wondering when to
throw the spirit bomb, when King Kai tells him he knows when the time is right to throw
it. Vegeta shoots about 50 fireballs at Gohan, but Gohan dodges them all, except one that
hits him and sends him flying back. Several blocks of rocks fall on Gohan. Gohan jumps
out of the rubble. Vegeta charges at Gohan. Krillin throws the spirit bomb. Vegeta sees it
and jumps up continuing at Gohan. Goku tells Gohan to shoot it back. The spirit bomb
won’t hurt him if there is no evil in his heart. Gohan turns it back. The spirit bomb hits
Vegeta and takes him all the way up, up, and out of there. Meanwhile at Roshi’s Baba’s
crystal ball breaks because of all the energy released by the ball.
