BULLETIN......

MAY 30 2009....
NORTH KOREA WARNS UN, TEST-FIRES SIXTH SHORT-RANGE MISSILE

Haaretz reports: “North Korea defiantly test-fired another short-range missile Friday and warned it would take self-defense action if provoked by the UN Security Council, which is considering tough sanctions against the communist regime for conducting a nuclear test.

The launch was the sixth short-range missile North Korea has test-fired since its nuclear test on Monday.

Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry said in a statement earlier Friday that the country won't recognize any Security Council resolutions unless the council first apologizes for criticizing Pyongyang's April 5 rocket launch.

‘If the UN Security Council makes a further provocation, it will be inevitable for us to take further self-defense measures,’ the North's Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

The statement called the council hypocrites.

‘There is a limit to our patience,’ the statement said. ‘The nuclear test conducted in our nation this time is the Earth's 2,054th nuclear test. The five permanent members of the UN Security Council have conducted 99.99 percent of the total nuclear tests.’

The North has been strident since its test - which it has also called a self-defensive measure. It did not specify what further action it was considering in response to UN resolutions, nor what it would consider a provocation…”

COUPLE ORDERED TO STOP HOLDING BIBLE STUDY AT HOME WITHOUT PERMIT

May 20, 2009

Fox News reports: “Pastor David Jones and his wife Mary have been told that they cannot invite friends to their San Diego, Calif. home for a Bible study — unless they are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars to San Diego County.

‘On Good Friday we had an employee from San Diego County come to our house, and inform us that the Bible study that we were having was a religious assembly, and in violation of the code in the county.’ David Jones told FOX News.

‘We told them this is not really a religious assembly — this is just a Bible study with friends. We have a meal, we pray, that was all,’ Jones said.

A few days later, the couple received a written warning that cited ‘unlawful use of land,’ ordering them to either ‘stop religious assembly or apply for a major use permit,’ the couple's attorney Dean Broyles told San Diego news station 10News.

But the major use permit could cost the Jones' thousands of dollars just to have a few friends over.

For David and Mary Jones, it's about more than a question of money.

‘The government may not prohibit the free exercise of religion,’ Broyles told FOX News. ‘I believe that our Founding Fathers would roll over in their grave if they saw that here in the year 2009, a pastor and his wife are being told that they cannot hold a simple Bible study in their own home.’

‘The implications are great because it’s not only us that’s involved,’ Mary Jones said. ‘There are thousands and thousands of Bible studies that are held all across the country. What we’re interested in is setting a precedent here — before it goes any further — and that we have it settled for the future.’…”

ABBAS: LIVNI WILL CONTINUE ON PATH TO PALESTINIAN STATE

October 4, 2008

The Jerusalem Post reports: “Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Saturday evening he believes Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni - if she becomes prime minister - will continue on the path to the establishment of a Palestinian state.

During a press conference in Ramallah with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, Abbas said Israeli-Palestinian peace talks would continue despite upcoming leadership changes in Israel and the US. He urged the next US administration not to waste time and become involved immediately in Middle East peacemaking.

‘We talked ... about the peace process,’ Abbas said in a joint news conference with Kouchner. ‘We emphasized that we are continuing this process, whether it is with the outgoing Prime Minister [Ehud] Olmert, or with [Kadima Chairman Tzipi] Livni, if she forms her government, and also with the new [US] administration, which we hope will handle [the negotiations] immediately and directly, and that time won't be wasted, as it was wasted before.’

Abbas described Livni as a ‘peace partner,’ noting that as Israel's lead negotiator for the past 11 months, she's aware of all the details of the talks.

Meanwhile, Egypt's presidential spokesman said Saturday his country endorses a US proposal to host key international players to follow up on Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.

Spokesman Suleiman Awwad said that US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has asked Egypt to invite Israeli and Palestinian leaders and members of the Quartet of Mideast mediators to meet before US President George W. Bush's term ends in January.

Bush has expressed hope for an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal before the end of the year, but Egypt and many other countries have voiced skepticism at the possibility

ISRAEL ACCUSES NORTH KOREA OF SUPPLYING WEAPONS TO MIDDLE EAST

October 4, 2008

Voice of America News reports: “Israel has accused North Korea of providing weapons of mass destruction to at least six countries in the Middle East, in violation of its arms control commitments.

Israel's delegate to the International Atomic Energy Agency, David Danieli, said Saturday that Pyongyang has long been a source in the region of dangerous weapons, including ballistic missiles. He told the United Nations body in Vienna that the weapons are supplied through black market and covert channels.

Danieli did not name the reputed countries of destination.

He made his remarks in a speech at a week-long conference on non-proliferation. Delegates adopted a resolution stressing the need for the denuclearization of North Korea.

Last month, IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei said North Korea had expelled international inspectors from the plutonium processing plant in Yongbyon, and was preparing to restart the plant.

Danieli expressed concern that not enough attention is being paid to what he called ‘dark aspects’ of North Korean behavior. He said there is growing evidence that other states are emulating North Korea's ‘dangerous unlawful’ practices…”

'PA BRACING FOR POSSIBLE HAMAS TAKEOVER'

October 4, 2008

The Jerusalem Post reports: “As the group did in the Gaza Strip roughly one and a half years ago, Hamas may try to carry out a ‘hostile takeover’ of the West Bank and bring down the current Fatah-led government, officials in the Palestinian Authority security forces warned in a report published by the London-based newspaper A-Sharq al-Awsat on Saturday.

According to the report, the sources said that PA security forces are maintaining the highest possible readiness, and are doing their utmost to prevent such an event from happening through continued arrest and interrogation operations.

‘The experience in Gaza taught us not to trust them,’ one security source told the paper.

Although these operations have been successful in reducing Hamas's capacity for launching any form of military takeover, the sources emphasized that the group may still challenge Fatah hegemony through other means, like targeted assassinations.

‘Everything is possible, and we are on guard,’ a senior officer told the paper.

The report comes just months before PA president Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to finish his term, on January 9, 2009.

According to the PA constitution, Abbas will be replaced by the speaker of the PA parliament, Abdel Aziz Dweik, a senior Hamas official currently in an Israeli prison.

Abbas, however, is not expected to step down from his post and is looking for ways to extend his term. The IDF and the PA are concerned that Abbas's refusal to hand over the reins could set off violent clashes in the West Bank between Fatah and Hamas

ISRAELI GENERAL: WAR WITH SYRIA MAY INCLUDE CHEMICAL, GUERILLA WARFARE

[YnetNews.com reports:] “Any future military conflict with Syria may include chemical warfare and fighting against guerrilla and regular army forces, said Major-General Avi Mizrahi, head of the GOC Army Headquarters.

Speaking at the Land Maneuver in the 21st Century conference, held in Latrun on Wednesday, Mizrahi said: ‘Syria has a large, equipped and trained regular army, and lately we have identified some guerilla activity in its ranks.’

Alongside the optimism surrounding the indirect Turkish-mediated talks between Jerusalem and Damascus, Israel is gearing up for a far more pessimistic scenario, with senior military officials estimating that the country would face a major missile threat should a conflict break out.

As for the possibility of a preemptive strike, Mizrahi said ‘if the Air Force can prevent (Syrian) forces from making their way to the front lines, this will help our forces.’

The general added that a future military confrontation with Syria may include chemical warfare. ‘We are taking this possibility into account,’ he

BULLETIN...AHMADINEJAD: IRAN WILL NOT BACK DOWN ON NUCLEAR PROGRAM

August 2, 2008

[Voice of America News reports:] “Iran's president has vowed to use force against what he calls ‘enemies’ who want to curtail his nation's controversial nuclear program.

State television reported President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's comments Friday, just ahead of a deadline for Iran to respond to a Western deal on its nuclear program.

The United States, Britain, China, France, Germany and Russia have given Iran until Saturday to accept an incentives package in exchange for suspending uranium enrichment activities, or risk additional sanctions.

On Thursday, Iran's foreign minister, Manouchehr Mottaki, said no firm deadline had been set. It was not clear whether Western diplomats plan to stick firmly to Saturday's deadline.

President Ahmadinejad said Friday that his country's so-called ‘foes’ are using the nuclear issue as an excuse to provoke Iran…”

August 2, 2008

[Voice of America News reports: ]“Iran denies it is under a deadline Saturday to respond to incentives offered by a group of world powers in exchange for suspending its uranium enrichment activities.

Six countries, including the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, said on July 19 - a Saturday - that Iran had two weeks to accept an incentives package.

But Iran's foreign minister, Manuchehr Mottaki, told reporters at a summit meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka, that Tehran is waiting for the six countries to respond to Iran's parameters for future talks.

It is not clear if Iran faces any immediate consequences for missing the informal deadline.

If Iran accepts the offer and freezes its nuclear activities, the six nations say they will stop seeking sanctions against the country…”

REPORT: U.S. FEARS ISRAEL WILL ATTACK IRAN THIS YEAR

July 1, 2008

[Ha’aretz reports:] “Senior defense officials in Washington believe that Israel may attack Iran's nuclear facilities before the end of the year, ABC News reported on Tuesday.

A top Pentagon official was quoted in the report as saying there is an ‘increasing likelihood’ that Israel will carry out an attack, leaving Washington concerned that Iran would strike both the United States and Israel in retaliation.

According to the official, two ‘red lines’ would prompt an Israeli strike. The first trigger would be once enough highly enriched uranium is produced at Iran's Natanz nuclear facility to create a nuclear bomb, which U.S. and Israeli assessments predict to occur will the end of this year or next.

‘The red line is not when they get to that point, but before they get to that point,’ the official was quoted as saying. ‘We are in the window of vulnerability.’

The second trigger, according to the official, would be linked to Iran's acquisition of the SA-20 air defense system it is purchasing from Russia.

The official said Israel may be likely to attack Iran before the system is put into place and Tehran's deterrence bolstered.

REPORT: EU NATIONS TO INCREASE SANCTIONS AGAINST IRAN

June 23, 2008 monday

[YnetNews].com reports: “European Union states agreed on a new round of sanctions against Iran on Monday over its refusal to meet international demands to curb its nuclear program, an EU official said.

The Iran sanctions were on a list of policy proposals put to EU ministers at a meeting in Luxembourg. EU diplomats have said the new sanctions include measures to target Iran's biggest bank, Bank Melli, with an asset and funds freeze.

The measures will notably stop the operations of the bank's offices in London, Hamburg and Paris.

The new sanctions also add more names of people and organizations to the EU's visa-ban and assets-freeze lists, according to one of the sources.

The EU move stems from a strict interpretation of UN sanctions against Iran which have been adopted since 2006 aimed at persuading Tehran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities, which the international community fears are part of a nuclear weapons building program.

Tehran insists it wants atomic energy only for a growing population whose fossil fuels will eventually run out.

The UN sanctions include a clause calling for ‘vigilance’ by member states over the movement in their territories of people directly associated with or supporting Iran's nuclear activities.

The EU has decided to interpret this clause in the strictest fashion, one European diplomat said.

Washington has been waiting for Europe to take such measures for months. Indeed the matter became a theme of US President George W. Bush's recent European tour…”

HEZBOLLAH SLEEPER CELLS MAY BE ACTIVE IN CANADA: REPORT

June 20, 2008

The[ National Post reports:] “Disturbing ‘chatter’ picked up recently by intelligence agencies about attacks against Jewish targets by Canadian-linked supporters of Hezbollah has prompted an alert to Canada's Jewish community urging added caution.

Anti-terrorism officials, however, are officially downplaying a startling U.S. news report that says the banned terrorist organization, which is backed by Iran, has activated four suspected ‘sleeper cells’ in Canada and that a known Hezbollah weapons expert was followed here and seen at a firing range south of Toronto.

An ABC News report on Thursday said three U.S. law enforcement agencies confirmed being briefed on the developments.

‘Suspected Hezbollah operatives have conducted recent surveillance on the Israeli embassy in Ottawa, Canada, and on several synagogues in Toronto, according to the officials,’ according to the ABC report.

The report says one of the cells is known as ‘Rashedan’ and that cell members have been told to send their family members home to Lebanon.

Over the past week, the National Post has been investigating its own reports of an intelligence-led investigation of Hezbollah activities in Canada, including activity focused on the Ontario border cities of Windsor and Niagara Falls.

Those under suspicion include men who were overseas in the summer of 2006 to fight with Hezbollah during the renewed conflict with Israel in Lebanon.

There has indeed been chatter -- references to various bits of intelligence picked up by various security sources -- that attacks should be carried out against Jewish targets in Canada and abroad, the Post has learned.

The Jewish communities in Toronto and Rome were mentioned as possible or desirable targets. That does not mean an attack is imminent or a specific attack has been mapped out.

When asked on Tuesday about the Hezbollah threats, Stockwell Day, the Public Safety Minister, confirmed that Canadian authorities were keeping an eye on the organization, which is listed as an outlawed terrorist group under Canadian law…”

CHILDREN ENDANGERED ... BIBLICAL MESSAGE NOW CRIMINALIZED ..

June 14, 2008 [ BULLETIN]

[WorldNetDaily.com ]reports: “A new Colorado law is helping homosexual activists achieve their goal of forcing Christians to teach biblical condemnation of homosexuality only behind the closed doors of their sanctuaries.

The as-yet untested state law promotes sexual identity ‘perception’ to the level of skin color under state discrimination laws.

Some opponents are calling it a ‘bona fide censorship law,’ and top analysts for Focus on the Family, the Christian publishing and broadcast powerhouse, are expressing concern over the ‘mischief’ they expect to follow the signing by Gov. Bill Ritter.

As WND reported, Ritter, a Democrat, struck gender-specific restrooms and locker rooms statewide when he signed the plan into law in May.

The law makes it illegal to deny a person access to public accommodations, including restrooms and locker rooms, based on gender identity or the ‘perception’ of gender identity.

‘Who would have believed that the Colorado state legislature and its governor would have made it fully legal for men to enter and use women's restrooms and locker-room facilities without notice or explanation?’ said James Dobson, founder of Focus.

‘Henceforth, every woman and little girl will have to fear that a predator, bisexual, cross-dresser or even a homosexual or heterosexual male might walk in and relieve himself in their presence,’ Dobson said.

But now an analyst for Focus, Bruce Hausknecht, has told WND there are other, significant, potential ramifications hidden in the fine print of the new law.

The law provides an exemption allowing religious groups to continue teaching, inside their doors, the Bible's condemnation of homosexuality. But the exemption itself is ultimately harmful to the church, Hausknecht contends.

‘It tends to marginalize the church,’ he said. ‘They'll say, 'It's just a church.' It will allow gay activists to continue to marginalize Christians. They'll say, 'Keep it within your four walls. That's all.'‘

But there's further possible mischief that can result from a ban on discrimination based on sexual orientation or ‘perception’ when deciding ‘full and equal enjoyment of facilities, accommodations’ and other factors, he said.

Religious publishers, he acknowledged, could be accused under the law for publishing biblical condemnation of homosexuality. Colorado Springs, where Focus in located, also is home to the huge Christian publishing operations of NavPress and the International Bible Society.

‘There are those who simply by publishing Christian materials could find themselves charged with a violation of this statute,’ he said…”
