Smashing Pumpkins Set First Round Of U.S. Tour
The Smashing Pumpkins will kick off a U.S. tour in support of their just-released fifth studio album "MACHINA / the machines of God" (Virgin) on April 8 in Kansas City. The first 10 dates include two hometown shows at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom (April 15-16), as well as stops in St. Louis (April 10); Minneapolis (April 12); Milwaukee (April 13); West Lafayette, Ind. (April 18); Dayton, Ohio (April 21); Kent, Ohio (April 23); and Orlando (May 8). Additional dates are expected to be announced shortly.
The tour comes on the heels of a lengthy promotional swing through U.S. record stores, which featured autograph signings and in-store performances. The Pumpkins celebrated the release of "MACHINA" with in-store performances in Chicago and New York last week.
"MACHINA" debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 (to be released tomorrow), one notch lower than its predecessor, the 1998 set "Adore." Current single "Stand Inside Your Love" is at No. 9 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart this week.
