Tinsley Offers Dave Matthews Band Progress Report

The Dave Matthews Band is currently holed up in a Virginia recording studio working hard on the follow-up to its 1998 album, "Before These Crowded Streets," and apparently things are going well so far.

DMB violinist Boyd Tinsley told MTV News this week that the band is about halfway finished with its as-yet-untitled effort.

"Right now we're recording our fourth album in Charlottesville, Virginia," Tinsley explained while showing his support at the second annual B.I.G. Night Out in New York Tuesday night, an event that benefited the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation. "We pretty much just rented a house and put a studio in it, and we're just having a lot of fun. We've been at it since the middle of January and we're going to finish up probably in the middle of June, and then go out on tour for the duration of the summer." [RealVideo]

Specifically, the band's tour will kick off on June 19 in Columbus, Ohio, and Tinsley said the group will once again return to stadiums and arenas across the U.S. "I'm excited, because we've been off for almost a year, and I love the road, man. We all love the road," he said.

While the Dave Matthews Band is sticking to its arena gig M.O., the band so far has yet to return to its penchant for bringing special guests in to record on its albums. "So far, it's just the five of us," Tinsley said of the manpower behind the new album. However, the violinist went on to say that the band would "probably have a few guests in," and that "It'd be cool to have Santana come out." He noted that no arrangements have been made yet to bring anyone else into the studio, however.

The band hopes to have the new album out by late summer or early fall.
