The Goo Goo Dolls will get political for next week's Democratic National Convention in L.A. and have agreed to perform at no less than three separate DNC events in and around the city.

On August 13, the day before the convention officially kicks off, the Goo Goo Dolls will play a special party in Hollywood that the band is co-sponsoring with Karenna Gore Schiff, the oldest daughter of Vice President Al Gore.

The following day, the Dolls will be special guests (but will not perform) at a dinner Honoring President Bill Clinton that is being thrown by Whoopi Goldberg at Paramount Studios. The band will strap on the instruments later that evening at a reception being staged at the Recording Academy's offices in Santa Monica.

The group will then round out its political gigs on August 15 with a late-night set for convention delegates, senators, and congressmen at the SkyBar in West Hollywood.

The Goo Goo Dolls were asked to appear at the convention by organizers after they caught band frontman John Rzeznik's stint as a guest reporter for an MTV "Choose Or Lose" special in which Rzeznik hung out and talked policy with Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy.

With the election less than three months away, the band has also left the door open for other possible appearances on the Democratic campaign trail for Gore, the party's presidential candidate, and his running mate, Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman.

On August 28, the Goo Goo Dolls will hit the road for a two-week tour of several state fairs; the concerts will also serve as food drives for USA Harvest, a nationwide nonprofit organization that delivers food to the needy

After taking several months off, the Goo Goo Dolls will return to the road starting next month for a brief, low-key tour of state fairs and festivals, beginning on August 28 at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo.

The Goo Goo Dolls have tapped their good friends in Tonic to open the seven-date outing; the two bands previously hooked up for an MP3.com-sponsored tour last October and November
