| In addition to co-creating, producing and writing a hit TV comedy (for which he received a People's Choice Award for Best Actor in a New Series), hosting and executive producing America's smash version of the long-running British improv series and writing the best-selling Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined, Drew Carey is set to tackle the title role in The Wonderful World of Disney's live-action television musical, Geppetto. Carey began his career in 1986 at the Cleveland Comedy Club and went on to compete on Star Search '88. In 1991, he landed a spot on HBO's 14th Annual Young Comedians Special. He then moved to Los Angeles where he experienced a dream come true when Johnny Carson bestowed upon him a rare invitation to come sit on the couch after his performance on The Tonight Show. Carey co-starred in the series, The Good Life where he met Bruce Helford, with whom he began a successful, collaborative writing relationship. Carey wrote and starred in his own Showtime special, Drew Carey: Human Cartoon, for which he won a CableACE award. He was also nominated for a CableACE award in 1993 for his performance at the Tenth Anniversary of the Montreal Comedy Festival. Carey returned to his stand-up comedy roots in July 1997, when he hosted HBO's Mr. Vegas All-Night Party. He also hosted the 1997 CableACE Awards and the 1998 American Music Awards. |
