| Pour vous aider, voici une lettre-type à adressez aux Gouverneurs des Etats auxquels vous désirez demander la grace d'un condamné. Sachez toutefois que vous pouvez écrire dans votre propre langue. Si le dernier paragraphe demandant la grace -ou la clémence, comme vous voulez- est en anglais, ce n'en sera que mieux. Mais les Etats-Unis doivent comprendre que des citoyens du monde entier, pas forcément anglophones, sont mis au courant de leurs violations des Droits de l'Homme. N'oubliez jamais de faire savoir que vous partagez la douleur des familles des victimes! (un paragraphe spécial, à la fin des lettres-type vous y aidera) Utilisez toujours du papier à en-tete. Merci  Lettre n°1: vous n'avez pas de renseignements précis, vous ne demandez que la grace au nom de votre conviction abolitionniste. ATTENTION: The Honorable Governor of XX (nom de l'Etat), XX (nom du Gouverneur) Pays d'où vous écrivez, date. Dear GovernorXX, This letter comes fromXX (votre pays). I write you as a simple citizen fighting for justice and I am deeply concerned by the fact that XX (nom du condamné) is scheduled to be executed on XX (date de l'exécution) Dear Governor XX, I do not believe that Death Penalty is the key to solve criminality in your state. In fact, criminality does increase much more in states where Death Penalty is on than on states whete it is out. Statistics are there to prove it. Dear Governor XX, Death Penalty is not a deterrent. And don't you think that the money this middle-age punishment coasts to a State would be much more efficient in education, social assistance, medical assistance towards those persons who sometimes turn violent because they have been borned and raised up in kinds of "ghettos" where it is easy to learn how to become a rebel? Dear GovernorXX, I beg you to grant clemency to XX (nom du condamné). Do not kill him. Killing him would not only damage XX (nom de l'Etat) but also the whole world. Yours, sincerely Signature Lettre n°2: Le condamné a des problèmes mentaux. Meme lettre jusqu'à la fin du premier paragraphe: Dear GovernorXX, XX (nom du condamné) is suffering from serious brain disorders which could have damage the way he deals with reality. You know his case, you do not ignore what the psychiatrists said upon his mental health. Dear GovernorXX, Death Penalty is not an answer to such a case -and anyway won't be an answer for any sort of case. Death Penalty is only a brutal response to XX (nom du condamné) who is not guilty for resaons of insanity. Dear GovernorXX, I beg and urge you to grant clemency toXX (nom du condamné). The world will then know that you are a man of justice. Do not killXX (nom du condamné). Killing him would not only damage XX (nom de l'Etat), but also the whole world. Yours, sincerely Signature Lettre n°3: Le condamné est ce que l'on nomme un "retardé mental". Meme lettre que la Lettre n°2 jusqu'au deuxième paragraphe: Dear GovernorXX, I beg you to look at XX (nom du condamné)'s case again. He has an IQ so low that it puts him in the borderline mental retardation range. Death Penalty which is never an answer, will there, just be a brutal response to XX (nom du condamné). 12 states have already decided not to impose death penalty to Mentally Retarded. Dear GovernorXX, I beg and urge you to grant clemency toXX (nom du condamné). Do not kill him. Killing him would not only damage XX (nom de l'Etat), but also the whole world. Yours, sincerely Signature Lettre n°4: Le condamné était mineur au moment des faits. Dear Governor XX, I write you to tell you my deep concerns about XX (nom du condamné), who is scheduled to be executed on (date de l'exécution). This prisoner was a juvenile at the time of the offense. And the execution of a juvenile does really upset me, as the United States are, with some very "democratic" and "welcoming" countries such as Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, the other country still executing his own children. You may reply that, for you, at 17 -or even 16- you are an adult if you commit a crime. No, you are not. You are the product of a society where violence dictates almost everything. Look at your movies, books, TV ... You are too young to have learned enough. You are still too young to die. The United States has a long history of executing young murderers. Do you remember Thomas Graunger? He was 16 and has been hanged for having sex with animals. Do you remember George Stinney? He was 14 and has been killed for the murder of two girls in California. Let me remind you of the fact that the first story took place in 1642 and the second one, in 1944. But of course, Sean Sellars died in 1999 for a crime committed when he was 16! 1642-2000: nothing changes. Since the death penalty has been reintated in 1976, 13 american citizen have died for murders they committed as kids. Something is going wrong, and I beg you not to follow those barbaric countries you are shaking hands with when killing kids. Everybody, in the whole xorld, is extremely astonished to see some very young kids killing their schoolfellows as it recently happened in Oklahoma. I could suggest an answer: could it be that they teach their youth through such executions that human life has little value? Dear Governor, I beg you to grant clemency to XX (nom du condamné)remembering he was a child. Only a child. Sincerely, nom, signature, coordonnées. POUR LES FAMILLES DES VICTIMES- valable dans chaque lettre: "I cannot forget the intense sorrow of the victims' families who had to overcome an eternal loss. Yes, I do understand a dull pain. But I will never agree with revenge." |
