Lamento pour un enfant condamné à mort
As in deep regretful sorrow,
To the Lord my hands I raise,
For a painful lost tomorrow,
My soul sings a graceful praise.
And along forgotten alleys,
Far into the depths of time,
I drown in these endless valleys,
In memory of a morbid crime.
And as truth sharpens its claw
In my lonely frightful tear,
I sense death so cold and raw
And I sink in hope and fear.
Forgive me Lord, forgive my lust,
For I have sinned in hungry need;
Almighty One, in Thee I trust,
My raging soul aches to be freed.
For I have waited far too long,
In this rough and empty cell;
Murmuring my silent song,
A child's forbidden farewell.
And as he walked down bright lit hallways,
The child still prayed in fierce despair,
For God and Man today and always,
To see why their world is unfair.
