Edge of Victory 2: Rebirth by J. Gregory Keyes Release date July 31st 2001
Rebirth has been an excellent book so far. Here is a review of what I've read so far.
The book starts out with Borsk Fey'lya putting an arrest warrant on Luke Skywalker. Right after that Mara faints because of a medicine she's been taking to control her disease doesn't sit well with her body getting ready to give birth. Mara is forced to not take the medicine anymore, which debilitates her. What hurts her even more is she's putting all her energy into keeping the baby healthy, so there is no energy left for the rest of her. At this point you wonder if Mara will die. It keeps you in suspense for a few pages, then you discover she's alright for the time-being. Luke and Mara fight there way off Coruscant dispite attempt by Coruscant security to keep them there. Luke and Mara find Jaina, who just re-joined Rouge Squadron. Luke tells her to go find Kyp Durron to get him to help Luke to build his 'Jedi River Of Freedom', a safe path throughout the galaxy where Jedi can protect and defend people while remaining safe themselves. Meanwhile, all the Jedi Children plus Anakin Solo, Corran Horn and Tahiri are on Booster Terrick's Star Destroyer, the Errant Venture. Corran, Anakin and Tahiri go on a routine supplies mission. Anakin and Tahiri guard the ship while Corran goes to get the supplies. Anakin and Tahiri feel a Jedi nearby in trouble, and they go and try to save him. But too late, he is killed by Peace Brigaders as they arrive on the scene. The Peace Brigade is chased off by a furious Tahiri, while Anakin listens to the Rodian Jedi's last words: "ya. ya yaa. yag'dhul". Anakin believes the Rodian thought the Vong were going to attack Yag'dhul. Tahiri returns and security forces come with a dead peace brigader and dead jedi sitting right in front of anakin and tahiri, who have their lightsabers lighted. They are taken into custody on their own free will and flee the system after the find Corran. The make a hyperspace jump to yag'dhul, but they fly into the yuuzhan Vong fleet. their ship crashes and they jettison out and land on a coralskipper, which they take over. Meanwhile, we read alot about Adept Shaper Nen Yim, who is aboard a dying vong ship which will kill all the vong alive dishonarably. She tries to get the ship saved with help from the outside, but the ship dies. She discovers an eight cortex and is brought to Supreme Overlord Shimrra on charges of heresy. However Shimraa says the key to beating the infidels is to have a great master shaper, one who stands up for everything and everyone. Shimraa says Nen Yim is the person. Meanwhile, Jaina, Kyp and his dozen, Rouge Squadron and Admiral Key'fey's fleet attack a Vong base in the Serpindal sector that contains a huge Vong weapon. However, it turns out not to be a weapon it is just a worldship where the yuuzhan vong live. Kyp Durron had lied to Jaina, Rouge Squadron and the fleet in saying the huge thing was a ship. Jaina slaps Kyp, and turns down his offer to be her master. Rouge Squadron and the fleet denounce Kyp, saying it was a mistake for you not to be kept in a prison. Meanwhile, on Yag'dhul, Corran, Tahiri and Anakin warn the Givin of the upcoming Vong fleet. But Vong are already in the station. Anakin fights one, in a 1 on 1 duel to 'prove the vong warrior is a true warrior'. Anakin defeats him and they run. However, there is no air on the station.Corran tells Anakin and Tahiri to go in a storage locker that still has some oxygen, saying he'll be right back. He returns with motivators for a ship, and they take off for the Errant Venture. (apparently, the Givin and the Vong each control half of Yag'dhul) Once there, they find that Ben Skywalker, Luke and Mara's baby, has been born. We know he will have light red hair and gray eyes, and he looks exactly like a combination of Luke and Mara. Mara's disease is now completely healed. At the end of the book, Cheif Fey'lya apologizes for the 'inconvienence' saying that the arrest warrant is terminated.
