What will happen to the SCM of the week when Brood War comes out? Once Brood War comes out Blizzard will probably mix and match expansion .SCX maps and original .SCM maps for their SCM's of the week. Top Is there going to be a Battle.net beta for Brood War? Yes. The beta testers have been selected, and the beta will begin shortly. Top When is Brood War coming out? Brood War is scheduled to ship later this year. As they come closer to finalizing the date, they will update the web site and their FAQ. Top About how much will Brood War cost? Blizzard has not set a price at this time. Top What exactly is new about Brood War? 6 new units (2 per species), plus the ability for the Protoss to create Dark Templar New Upgrades for the Terran Goliath and Zerg Ultralisk 3 new tilesets 26 missions spread across three campaigns 100 new multi-player maps 4 new cinematic sequences New musical score and sound effects Top What is the break down of the new single player levels? In the first it was 10-10-10 Terran Zerg Protoss is it still going to be even? Protoss - 8 Terran - 8 Zerg - 10 Top Will there be new heroes in Brood War? Yes, expect at least 5 new heroes to be introduced over the course of the 3 campaigns. Top What is the UED? It stands for the United Earth Directorate. Without giving too much away, lets just say that the Terrans have some new competition. Top What's with the UED page? This is just something you can do for fun. Blizzard put it up to give players a feel for the world the Terrans live in. Top Will there be a Brood War Ladder? Yes, there will be a separate Ladder for Brood War players. Top Will I have to create a new battle.net account? No you will be able to play Brood War on battle.net using your existing account. Top Can you be on both the Brood and Normal Ladders? If so, what rating will be displayed next to your name in chat? You will be able to compete in both the Starcraft and Brood War Ladders. The rating that is displayed next to your name will be dependent upon whether you have selected to play Starcraft or Brood War before logging into Battle.net. Top Can people without Brood War play against those who have it? Before you log on to Battle.net, you will choose whether or not you are going to be playing with the Brood War expansion units and tilesets. Brood War players can only play against others who have decided to log on to Battle.net through Brood War. You can still play Starcraft without the expansion units and tilesets, but you must elect to do so before going onto Battle.net. Top How will spawning be implemented in Brood War? Blizzard has yet to determine a spawning strategy for Brood War, as it is an expansion of Starcraft. Top Will Blizzard be bringing back the observer mode in Brood War? Not decided Top Are there plans to FINALLY implement user-customizable splash screens for custom campaigns? Not decided Top Will there be any other expansions after Brood War? Blizzard currently has no plans for any other Starcraft products. Should they announce any other products in the Starcraft universe, they will let you know through the Blizzard website. Top Will there be a new version of StarEdit? StarEdit will be updated to include the new tilesets and new triggers. You will still be able to make maps that can be played if you don't have the expansion, however. Top What are the new tilesets? The blasted remains of Korhal, with buildings buried in the sand and great dunes of red sand. The twilight world is Shakuras and is perpetually dark. The ice world of Braxis, a fringe colony of the Terran Dominion. Top Will there be any new critters? Yes, every new tileset will have a new critter. Top Will there be new doodads included with the new tilesets? Yes, each tileset will have new animating doodads, along with some revamped doodads. Ramps will be almost twice as big as they were in StarCraft. Top Will there be new triggers? Yes there will be new triggers included in Brood War, but Blizzard is yet to release any information what they'll be. Top Will there be new AI scripts? There may be a few added to improve the computers playing skills, and a few that would be useful to SCM creators wanting to make a more RPG-type campaign. Top Will there be new buildings to produce the new units? There will be no new buildings or add-ons for Brood War. All the new units and new unit upgrades will be able to be produced/researched in existing buildings. Top Will Brood War change any pre-existing units? Yes. Both the Terran Goliath and Zerg Ultralisk will be getting new upgrades. Top Will there be any new sounds for existing units? No, Blizzard is not altering the original units for Brood War. NOTE: This answer contradicts blizzards previous answer to the previous question. Top What are the Goliaths and Ultralisk upgrades? ULTRALISK Chitinous Plating - Give all Ultralisks an additional +3 to their armor. Anabolic Synthesis - This will greatly increase the speed of all Ultralisks. GOLIATH Charon Boosters - This will increase the Goliath Air attack range. This does not increase its ground attack range. Top LURKER What are the Lurkers stats? COST: Mutated from Hydralisk, costs an additional 100 Minerals 100 Gas BUILT: Lurker aspect researched at Hydralisk Den. (Requires Lair) 200 Minerals 200 Gas HEALTH: 125 Health ATTACK: Ground Only - Attack moves in a straight Line DAMAGE: 20 Concussive SPECIAL: Can only attack while burrowed. Top How does the Lurker work? The Lurker is mutated from a Hydralisk, much in the same way as Guardians are currently created. While the Lurker does not have an attack in its mobile state, it does have the ability to attack once it is burrowed. This attack is a series of spines that rip through the ground in a straight line from the Lurker to the target, out to its maximum range. Every enemy unit in the path of the spines will take damage. This is a natural ability of the Lurker and does not have to be researched. Top Can the Hydralisk mutate into the Lurker while burrowed? The Hydralisk must be burrowed in order to mutate into the Lurker. Top Can the Lurker attack air units? No, it can only attack ground units. Top Does the Lurker damage allies like firebats & Reavers do? Yes, he does damage allies but not the player's own units. Top If the lurker only attacks while burrowed , what happens when he is detected? Like every other burrowed unit, the Lurker may only be attacked after he is found by a detector unit. Top DEVOURER What are the Devourers stats? COST: Mutated from Mutalisk, costs an additional 100 Minerals 200 Gas 2 Supply BUILT: Devourer aspect Researched at Greater Spire. (Requires Hive) HEALTH: 350 health ATTACK: Air to Air DAMAGE: 1/3 of targets current Health. SPECIAL: None. Top Can the Devourer kill units? The Devourer inflicts a minimum amount of damage, so it can kill units on its own. Top Is the Devourer's 1/3 damage attack only used by consuming mana, or is it a normal attack? The 1/3 damage attack is the Devourer's normal attack. He does not have a mana bar. Top Can the Devourer attack air and ground units? Can it take 1/3 life off buildings? The Devourer can only attack air units. NOTE: What about flying Terran buildings eh? Top MEDIC What are the Medics stats? COST: 75 Minerals 25 Gas 1 Supply BUILT: Barracks (Requires Academy) HEALTH: 80 Health ATTACK: NONE SPECIAL: Heal, Optic Flare, and Restoration Top Will you be able to research something to increase the Medics mana? Unknown. Top How does the Medic heal? The healing ability of the Medic is automatically triggered when biological units in her range are injured. You can also select to heal individual units in the same fashion that an SCV can be directed to repair machines and buildings. Medics can heal any biological unit of any species, including Zerg buildings. Finally, a single medic cannot heal herself, but a group of medics could heal each other. Top Will the medic's heal ability take up energy, or will only Optic Flare and Restoration? The Heal ability does take mana to use, but only a small amount in relation to the amount of damage that she can heal. Top What does the Medic's Optic Flare do? Costs 100 Energy. Researched at the Science Facility. It permanently reduces a unit's sight to 1 matrix. Top What units can Optic Flare target? All units in the game can be blinded by Optic Flare, only buildings are exempt. Top How many units will the medics Optic Flare effect with a hit? (i.e is it area of effect?) Optic Flare only affects one unit per casting. Top If a medic uses Optic Flare on a detector, does the detector's detection range go down to 1 too, or just the sight? The sight and detection are both reduced to 1. Top What does Restoration do? Costs 50 Energy. Researched at the Science Facility. Restoration targets a single unit and rids it of any status ailment. Top Will the medics "Restoration" ability be able to cure its own Optic Flare ability? Yes, Restoration can remove any ill spell effect on a single unit with the exception of Stasis Field. Top VALKYRIE What are the Valkyries stats? COST: 150Minerals 150Gas 3Supply BUILT: Starport (Requires Control Tower and Armory) HEALTH: 200 Health ATTACK: Air to Air - Explosive DAMAGE: 8 (Splash) Top How does the Valkyrie's attack work? The Valkyrie fires a volley of small air-to-air Halo Rockets at a target. The missiles strike not only their target, but also an area around the target. Each missile also does a small amount of splash damage in its target area. Top Is the Valkyrie capable of attacking land targets as well as air, or is it a reversed Guardian? It is air to air only. Top How far up the tech tree does a Terran have to be before a Valkyrie can be constructed? The Valkyrie is built from the Starport w/attached Control Tower and also requires an Armory. Top CORSAIR What are the Corsairs stats? COST: 150 Minerals 100 Gas 2 Supply BUILT: StarGate HEALTH: 80 Shields 100 Health ATTACK: Air to Air - Plasma DAMAGE: N/A (Splash) SPECIAL: Disruption Web Top Will you be able to research something to increase the Corsair's mana? Unknown. Top What type of damage will the Corsair deal? Will it do splash damage? Currently, the Corsair is doing Normal damage with a slight amount of splash damage. Top What does Disruption Web Do? Costs 100 energy to cast. It is researched at the Fleet Beacon. It affects an area and prevents all ground units and structures inside the web from using ranged weapons. It will not affect air units or melee attacks. Top Will ground based spell-casters (not airborne !!) like templar, defiler be able to cast spells when inside a corsair's Disruption web? Yes, Disruption Web only nullifies a ground unit's ranged attacks, not spell casting or melee attacks. Top Isn't Disruption Web just a Protoss version of the defiler spell Dark Swarm? It differs from the defiler's dark swarm in the fact that the dark swarm prevents ranged fire into and within the swarm, while disruption web prevents fire out of the web, and units can fire at units/buildings within the web as long as they fire from outside of it. Top DARK TEMPLAR What are the Dark Templars stats? COST: 150Minerals 150Gas 3Supply BUILT: Gateway (Requires Templar Archives) HEALTH: 80 Shields 40 Health ATTACK: Melee DAMAGE: 45 SPECIAL: Permanently Cloaked, Ability to Merge with another Dark Templar to create a Dark Archon Top Will Dark Templars be as powerful as they are in the Protoss Campaign? The Dark Templar has very similar statistics to the ones in the StarCraft Campaign. Top DARK ARCHON What are the Dark Archons stats? COST: 2 Dark Templar (300 M 300 G 6S) BUILT: 2 Dark Templar HEALTH: 200 Shields 10 Health ATTACK: None SPECIAL: Feedback, Maelstrom, and Mind Control Will you be able to research something to increase the Dark Archons mana? Unknown. Top What Psionic Abilities does the Dark Archon have? The Dark Archon currently has the following Psionic abilities: Feedback Costs 75 energy to cast. Innate ability. When this ability is used on a unit, the target loses all of its energy and will take an amount of damage equal to the energy lost. Maelstrom Costs 100 Energy to cast. Researched at Templar Archives. This ability stuns all organic units within an area so that they cannot move or attack for a very short amount of time. Mind Control Costs 200 Energy to cast and drains all of the Dark Archons shields. Researched at Templar Archives. A Dark Archon may take control of any unit. You maintain control of the unit even after the Dark Archons death. Top Does the Dark Archon need full shields to use Mind Control? No, but the ability does drain all the shield points away that the Dark Archon currently has. Top What happens when you Mind Control a transport? The current design spec allows you take control of the transport and any units that are contained within. Obviously, this is potentially very powerful, and is one area that is undergoing serious review. The answer to this question will need to be determined during the play balance testing. Top Can you mind control critters? Yes Top Can you mind control something in a stasis field? No, unit within a Stasis Field is not targetable and therefore no form of attack or spell will work on them. Top What happens if you mind control an SCV while he is building something? The SCV will immediately stop constructing the building and start to attack the partially completed building. Note that the owner of the partially completed building may still cancel it or complete it with his/her own SCVs. Top What happens if you mind control an interceptor? You may not Mind Control interceptors, scarabs, or mines. Top After using Mind Control, the Dark Archon will be extremely vulnerable to any hostile unit. Will the movement AI for the Dark Archon be superior to the regular Archon? Blizzard is not changing the pathing behavior of any units in the game. Top Does a player lose a mind controlled unit if the archon is killed? No, the ownership transfer is permanent and non-revocable short of another Mind Control. Top Will the Dark Archon be immune to Mind Control cast by another Dark Archon? Every unit in the game can be Mind Controlled, including other Dark Archons. Top What happens if you mind control an overlord? Does the zerg player lose supply? Duh Top When you Mind Control a Battlecruiser with a Yamato Gun, do you get the Yamato technology? Yes, along with getting the enemy unit, you also receive all technologies that the unit posses with the exception of shield, armor and attack bonuses. For example, if you Mind Control an Arbiter that has Recall researched, then all of your Arbiters may now cast the spell. Top What effect Mind Control will have on Hallucinations?
