Casting a circle
how to cast a circle

Circles in the northen hemisphere are generally drawn clockwise, and removed widdershins. Of course, in Australia, they cast widdershins and remove clockwise

Casting the circle is one of the most important things any pagan can learn to do. The circle is sacred space in which magic is worked, where witches can meet with the goddes and god. Because there is no building that serves as a pagan place of worship, we must construckt our own. Of course anyone may worship anywhere they please, but sometimes it is better to have a place that is dedicated to the gods, protected and sealed. If you like, you amy lay something physical on the ground th denote where your circle is, such as flowers, crystals, stones, a chalk outline, or candles. Pick whichever is wright for you. After you have placed your boundaries, you need to raise power. Advanced withes can do this simply by concentrating or willing their power to be released. Others who have difficulty with this might wish to use physical motion to stir up energy. This can be done by walking swiftly around the circle, dancing around the circle or some other type of enrgy raising activity. When you feel you have energy built up inside you, ready to release it, walk around the circle in the clockwise motion (called deosil) holding out your projective hand (this will be the hand you use to write with probably) and visualising the energy pouring out of you, forming a circle on the ground which you walk. Really feel that energy coming out of your hands and forming a protective circle. It is formed with personal power which is felt and visualised as streaming out from the body to form what, to me, ends up looking like a bubble made of mist. Some use their athame, or magic knife to direct this power. Others use their hands. Once energy is flowing through your fingertips or athame, walk the circle three times clockwise, envisioning the mist (or bubble, or light, or whatever works for you) trailing outward from you to form the sphere. When the circle is completed, shut off the energy by shaking your hand or simply pulling the energy back into yourself. It is important to note that the circle really isn't a circle but a sphere. It's energizes greate a protective dome around you. We call it a circle because that is where the sphere intersects the ground. after your circle is drawn you need to conjure it's powers and seal it. Sealing the circle involves asking protective powers (angels, watchtowers, elements, whitchever is right for you) to watch over your circle and keep it safe from harm.

Circle Casting
Circle Conjuration #1

By the earth that is her body,
and by the air that is her breath,
and by the fire of her bright spirit,
and by the living waters of her womb,
the circle is cast.

Circle Conjuration #2

Black spirits and white,
red spirits and grey,
harken to the rune I say.
Four points of the circle,
weave the spell,
East, South, West, North,
your tale to tell.
East is for red for the break of the day,
South is white for the noontide hour,
In the West is twilight grey,
and Nort is black for the palace of power.
Three times round the circle's cast.
Great ones, spirits from the past,
Witness it and guard it fast.

Circle Conjuration #3

Grond and center. I magine a mist of purple swirling energy flowing clockwise around you. Mentally push it out to the desired size of the circle. As you are imaginig the mist extendin itself and for ming a spher around you say-

Circle flow and circle grow,
as above, so below.
The circle is now sealed.
Let naught but good enter in.
Let naught but good exit out.

After your circle has been protected by the watch towers, you'll need to conjure the powers of the circle. Say-

I conjure thee O circle of power that you might be for me boundary between the world of men and the realm of mighty spirits a place of joy, love and trust to contain the power I will raise herein. I have called upon the wathtower North, South, East and West to aid me in the costruction of this circle. In the name of the father god and mother goddess do I conjure thee,O circle of great power! This circle is sealed.

Circle Closing
Circle Closing #1

By the earth that is her body,
and by the air that is her breath.
and by the fire of her bright spirit,
and by the living waters of her womb,
teh circle is open but unbroken,
may the joy of the goddes live in our hearts,
merry meet, and merry part,
and merry meet again.

Circle Closin #2

To release your circle, simply walk widdershins (counter clockwise) around the circle three times or you may walk deosil around the circle and absorb the energy back into yourself, your cauldron, athame, or piece of jewelry, while saying-

Circle wane and circle stop,
up from the bottom.
Down from the top.
The circle is open, but never broken.
Always it remains.

Ritual of Thanks

Set altar facing East. Use the following items-
One blue candle
3 kernals unpopped corn
One appl cut on th cross, showing a pentagram inside.
Light your candle with the following words-

Great goddes, lady of summerlands, mother to us all. I welcome you to this place of power and offer thanks for what you have givven me. I am priestess of your path and I see with your eyes. You guide me in the lessons I must learn.

Put the bottom half of the apple in front of you. Charging the three kernals of corn between your hands, say-

As the maiden is ripe with potential, so is my life.
As the mother gives birth, so do my thaughts.
As the crone nourishes life, so do nourish mine.

Place the kernals in the center of the core-petagram and melt wax from your candle to cover them. Replace the top of the apple while the wax is still warm. Let the apple sit on your altar for three days and nights. Remove wax token and bury apple. The wax token can remain on your altar for as long as you wish.
