 When practical, cleanse the affected area with mild soap and warm water and rinse thoroughly. Gently dry by patting or blotting with toilet tissue or a soft cloth before application of this product. Anusol Ointment is to be applied externally or in the lower portion of the anal canal up to 5 times daily. (The enclosed dispensing cap is designed to control dispersion of the ointment to the affected area in the lower portion of the anal canal only.) To use dispensing cap, attach it to tube, lubricate well, then gently insert part way into anus. Squeeze tube to deliver medication. Thoroughly cleanse dispensing cap after use. Apply the ointment as often as necessary. To apply internally, screw off the cap and attach the cleansed applicator nozzle (enclosed). Insert the applicator into the anus and release the desired quantity of ointment. Then apply a thin film of ointment over the external area. The product is nonstaining, however if excess product is applied remove gently with gauze or soft tissue. After each application the applicator nozzle must be removed and carefully washed in hot water with detergent and then thoroughly rinsed in clear water.
