Blossoming Pink Buttons
Personality
escapes me
when I am in a throng.
Sparkling wit
eludes me
I sing no clever song.
Like a timid
little violet
I shrink into the gloom,
when my presence is required
in a crowded room.

Ah, but when
I am with poets
I then take center stage
and as we
read together
page by page by page
suddenly I come alive,
my face begins to shine
and I become
a part of
the poet's world sublime!

I fear no
condemnation,
I feel no sense of dread
no more at a
loss for words
I say what must be said.
No more a
shrinking violet
hiding in the gloom,
I stand tall
and very proud,
I have achieved full bloom

Good Dog

My ashes now rest on the mantle
I've gone to my home in the sky.
Master, I want to thank you
for your soft and loving good-bye.

I always tried hard to please you,
I did the best that I could.
My aim was to gain your approval
and hear you say I was good.

At one time they called me a bad dog,
until you came on the scene.
Your love has made me a good dog.
I'm happy you did intervene.

You have my eternal devotion
although I no longer reside
in the earthly home you inhabit,
my love transcends time and tide.

A Candle In The Wind

Quietly
like a candle
in the wind . . .
My father went home
to be with his Father:
The Father of life,
The Father of love.

My father now sees
colors he's never seen before.
He now hears
angels sing hymns of praise.

Like a candle
in the wind
my father went home . . .

Raymond John Flory

The wind blows softly.
It whispers songs in my ears.
Gentle melodies.

Tahnee Brown

She did it and
it was done
and it showed
she knowed
it showed just
as loud and plain as
the big pink buttons
all done askew
down the front of
her little - girl white
Sunday - best dress that
she could never wear
the same way
again

Do I Qualify?

(a poem dedicated to guidance counselors)

I don't want to get married ma'am,
I don't want to have kids.
I don't necessarily want to be a professional,
I don't mind if I'm poor,
as long as I'm not bored.
I want mystery,
inconsistency,
maturite,and speciality.
I want to travel and experience life,
gallivant style.
I want to love someone once,
and love again.
I want pain in my life
(to grow from),
and experiences that will change the world.
And I want God on my side when I reach the end.
Now that you know ma'am,
what it is that I'm looking for,
can you reccommend a good college?

My First Day Of School

I am taken up the stairs,
Into the classroom I go,
We meet the teacher,
Out in the hallway,
I am hung up,
Hey! hey! Don't leave me out here,
I am left all alone,
No! I was wrong,
I met a lot of bookbags like me,
Then it was time to go.

Making The Right Connection

Melancholy
with a sense
of impending doom
seeking solace in
communion with God to
dispel the malevolent gloom.

Hand Shadows

Night brought a skiff of snow
glittering to morning's breath
as the sun crawled into the sky
moving shadows back into whitened outlines
like on the gabled church
where each spire silhouettes itself
like hand shadows on the roof.

First Frost Daddy's Girl
deep in the November night
as black velvets
the Oklahoma hills

white fingers of frost
poke down the draws
along the RED RIVER
flick across the riffles

ice the edge
of TEXAS

Sheryl L. Nelms

Overjoyed, faint
I feel it in front of me
Like a raging sea
My daughter's eyes

She giggles
She jiggles
Smiles and says

Daddy

Daddy

Tea?

Pouring the brew
Delicious beyond taste

I see her in front of me

Overjoyed, proud
Drinking life
Sipping tea.
