If your thinking of stopping your wheels from wearing down, don't loose sleep over it. They will wear down and theres nothing you can do. Just buy good wheels that aren't soft or weak. When your buying for the size, think if what you like to ride. I personally prefer small wheels such as 50mm. So I buy wheels that are about 52mm so that they last longer. Two millimeters aren't going to afect my skating a whole lot, and those 2 milimeters will make it so that there is more wheel to wear down, making them last longer. Other than buying wheels with an extra 2-3mm on them you can't prevent them from wearing.

If you do want your whels to wear down and get smaller then turn the wheels around so that te inside is on the outside. If you do this whenever they start to look like a cone then they will flaten out. But this does make them wear down faster do be ware of that.
