Heres some advice to help you become better skaters.
Don't do something if you can't take the pain of the fall. If you can take it though, go ahead be as crazy as you want.
Start off a little at a time, don't go on the huge halfpipe your first time at the skate park.
Practice tricks a little bit at a time. You'll learn faster this way, instead of trying to do a kickflip once you learn to ollie, take the trick one part at a time, do the trick slowly part by part. Get the right flip to it, then work on the landing.
If your just starting out, buy one of those crappy Wall Mart boards for $25. Then once you can ollie buy a cheap, but decent deck like a Powell Mini Logo, or Tower for $60 instead of an Element for $100.
Find a nice 2 set. Once you can ollie that every time, find a 3 or 4 set. Once you can do that, find a 5 set and so on. Build up you stair ability one step at a time. when you can ollie a 5 or 6 set every time, maybe kickflip it or pop shuvit down it, find a small set with a rail and try to boardslide it.
