Shoes do wear down no matter what they are made out of. These are the best tips I can give when buying shoes...
-If you snap your laces alot them buy shoes with covered laces.
-If the side of your shoe wears down alot buy shoes with an ollie pad.
-If the toe always ends up getting a hole in it then buy shoes with a strong toe. Things like rubber toe caps and that.
-Leather shoes last longer.
If your shoes dont have these things than there is small things you can do.
-Rips
If the tread on your shoe snaps and you end up with a hole in your shoe, then just sew it up good! that's all you have to do. And once it's sewed up put some wood glue on the thread and let it dry. Don't use too much though!
-Laces
Where your laces wear down wrap electric tape around them. It comes in tons of colors so you can buy what best fits your shoe color. Electric tape just slides on the griptape and doesnt wear down. I bought new laces and in a week they were starting to snap, put some electric tape on them, almost a month later the electric tape is practically in the same comdition as when i put it on!
-Toe
If your wearing a hole in your toe then you should buy some shoe goo. this turns into a rubber in a day or two but you do have to put some more on when it wears off. I haven't ever tried it but some people i know that have say it lasts about 2 weeks or more. I use wood glue. It dries on like yellow plastic in about 20 minutes. After a while is does crack up, and wear off but I'd rather use it than shoe goo. Wood glue comes off when it gets wet though so if you live in a rainy area then just buy shoe goo. When you put wood glue on dont use too much or you will ruin your shoes. Just put a little bit on, then if you need some more put a little more on. It's better to just put more on than have your shoe covered in yellowish plastic stuff.
-Side
I don't wear this part of my shoes down much so I haven't bothered to come up with a way to stop the wearing. You should just put some electric tape on it. If the part of your shoe buy the toe where the rubber is(lower part). then put 2 layers of electric tape on it, then cut a piece of soldering wide(the thick stuff) and then put another layer of electric tape over it to keep the soldering wire in place. The tape will wear through and you will be able to see the wire in a while, the wire does wear down but it'd tape like 5 months of you skating hard every day to wear it down completely.
