When your skating, If you dont land the trick 2 things can happen... If your dedicated and trying your hardest and screw something up, you'll usually slam... If your not dedicated, you'll just bail and not get hurt too much. Heres some of the different things that can happen.
Credit Card
Usually happens on flip tricks... The board pops up and swiped you between the legs, usually leaving you on the ground crunched up in a ball holding your jewels.
Road Rash
Scraping your legs arms, or any part of your body across the pavement, cutting you up pretty bad and taking off a couple layers of skin, not too much fun.
Shinners
When your board hits you in the shins, Always leaves a killer bruise. And if you can get one bad enough you'll wanna cry
Hippers
A lot of things can cause you to go flying forward onto your hip. But it hurts like hell jsut like every slam. A hipper is when you get a big bruise on your hip. If you keep falling on the bruise the skin can actually separate from the muscle and get a little blood pocket in it. Most have to get drained, But when its just a big bruise it jsut spreads out and dissapears, some have turned people legs yellow. Really gross.
Super Hipper
Falling on your hit with something in your pockets. Car keys, lots of change, sell phones, beepers, or anything hard.
Rat Lines
You can get these anywheres on your body. If you fall on rough ground or rocks they leave lots of little red dots on you and stay there for about a day. Common on the palms of your hands from when you fall but catch yourself. They sting a lot at first but eventually they stop hurting. Isn't a serious injury but it does sting like road rash.
Getting Pitched
Damn those little rocks. Most skaters have hit little rocks or cracks with their wheels rolling up to something, the board stops and you keep going. Good way to get a hipper if you dont catch yourself.
Sacking a Rail
Just the way it sounds, having your board slip out of place on a handrail and having one leg go over, landing you right in the sweet spot. They can be serious depending on how you hit it. Cases of twisting a nut and needing a rubber ball put in, cutting open your bag, and stitches have been known to happen.
The Splits
When you land with one foot on the board, and one foot off... front foot keeps going back one stays in place and you spread right out.
Spreading Yourself
When you try something on a ledge and one leg goes over and the other stays to the side of it. Doing the splits on a ledge. I think my friend sacked a ledge this way. He doesnt skate anymore...
Rolled or tweaked ancles
The are very common injuries and can put you out of skating for ether a week or a month depending on how bad it is. When you land with the side of your foot on the board a bit, and it jsut keeps going and rolls right onto the side... Hurts liek hell and if it hurts the next day the you should go see a doctor. If this happens to you read the Rolled Ancles page.
Zinging out
Have ya ever missed the endge of a ledge on a 50-50 and have the board slide right out laving you on the ground laying on your back. Exactly
The Runout
When your aproaching something and just think "screw this!" and jump off your board before you ollie into the trick. Common way of chickening out when aproaching stairs.
Battle Roll
When your tossed forward onto your shoulder or side and roll with it to avoid getting hurt. This is a good thing to know how to do if you dont wanna break your ribs.
Hop Off
When you do a trick and jsut decide to get off the board. Happens alot when learing flip tricks and deciding you dont wanna get a shinner. |
