| Mallice turned to face her. He smiled evilly. "Come, Chera. Join me, turn. I can give you power beyond anything you ever thought possible." He said darkly, in a way that made her skin crawl. "What are you talking about?" she said incredulously, Jerik was lying on the floor unconscious and he was trying to recruit her in his place. "Isn't Jerik your apprentice?" "Jerik is a weakling. He had potential and he blew it. You are more powerful then him Chera, that's the reason your grandfather haunted your dreams. That's the reason I sent him to find you. It's all because of you." He said, his voice was evilly hopeful. It gave her chills. She tried to talk only to find her voice was faltering. She consciously willed herself to steady "No Mallice, I can't join you. I am where I want to be, where I was meant to be. I don't want to be a Sith." Mallice nodded his head in a receding manner, and then he struck. Chera's danger sense flared and she moved out of the way with hardly a millisecond to spare. The lightsaber struck harmlessly into the wall behind her. Chera brought her own saber up to the ready and just in time; he brought his saber up and took it crashing down again against hers. Chera deflected the blow again, and again. He kept crashing the blows down upon her, backing her into the hallway. Chera was hopelessly trapped, he was pushing her away from the pit as if there was something there he feared. Suddenly Chera had a flash of insight. She knew what she had to do, if she could just hold off a little longer... there. She saw her opening. She swung her lightsaber up against his as it came crashing down toward her again, she deflected his saber up over his head and ducked around him under his arm. She ran out of the hall toward the pit just as a red force field came closed behind her. Mallice was trapped inside. But for how long? She honestly wasn't sure. But at least it was something. Suddenly something hit Chera, what sounded like a male voice suddenly exclaimed The pit! Chera ran over to the pit where Master Skywalker had fallen in earlier. She peered over the edge and saw what looked like the best thing she had ever seen in her life. Master Skywalker was still alive. He was hanging from a large fixture on the wall. He was weak but hanging on. She sighed a deep sigh of relief and set down her lightsaber on her right side. She leaned over and reached into the pit trying to reach him and grab him out. She couldn't reach him and started removing her jacket. She got it half way off when suddenly the skin on the back of her neck started to tingle. She spun around and saw Mallice charging toward her, he had gotten out. His lightsaber was raised high over his head and he was about to take it crashing down on her, she strained her left hand over toward her lightsaber and made a feeble attempt to ignite it and hold it over her body. But with her jacket half off it was almost impossible. So this is how it was going to end. Suddenly she saw something out of the corner of her eye, Jerik had woken up and was moving toward them. Then she realized he was running nervously not walking in the cocky manner she would have expected. Sydnee ran through the door into a room with planks and bridges with a reactor core in the center. Sydnee ran to the other end ot the room into a hallway with two red light screens. Sydnee ran over to the first one. She could see a man she had never seen before. Trapped between the two red screens. Then the front one opened up the man ran through and she could see Jerik in a corner and Chera on the ground reaching for something in a pit. Why isn't this thing moving like it did for that guy. Sydnee thought. Then the one that opened for him closed and the one that she was behind opened. Now all I have to wait for is this one to open. Sydnee thought. Then she saw the man walk over to Chera igniting his lightsaber and slashing down at her. "Chera! Watch out!" Sydnee screamed. Just then she saw Jerik running at Chera and a man that looked just like the one she met in the hallway. He looked at Sydnee and threw his lightsaber in her direction and jumped into the man. They fell over the edge out of her sight. Sydnee knew what Jerik was doing, he was sacrificing himself for the greater good of the galaxy. ?No, you don?t Jerik. You don?t have to impress me by sacrificing yourself. I love you the way you are.? Sydnee whispered to herself, looking at her feet. Sydnee looked up to see Chera over the ledge trying to help someone. Then to Chera's total surprise he jumped. He rammed into Mallice just seconds before he was able to bring his saber down on her. Jerik knocked Mallice into the pit, Jerik had obviously known he could make it over the pit with his running start. He almost made it too. But Mallice grabbed his legs and they both started falling into the pit. Chera didn't think, she just reacted. Her hand shot out and she found herself getting a secure force grip on Jerik. He stopped his descent, Mallice, still clinging to his leg smiled evilly knowing she couldn't let Jerik die like this. She saw a serious look cross Jerik's face, he looked around taking in his surroundings. His view settled on her face. He studied her features carefully. Then he shifted his line of sight just over her shoulder, Chera couldn't take any of her attention away from him, but she felt Sydnee's distinctively agitated presence just behind her. He smiled at Sydnee and then waved his hand in front of Chera's face. A strong wind rammed into Chera knocking her over and causing her to lose her grip on him. He started to fall again with Mallice in tow. Sydnee ran up behind Chera and Chera turned and grabbed her before she threw herself into the pit as well. Sydnee started screaming the word "No" and it slowly turned into a sob and Sydnee buried her face in Chera's shoulder and they both cried for a moment. Both of them had lost someone very special. Then Mara Skywalker, Leia Organa Solo and Han Solo ran into the room. They stopped next to the two girls. Chera vaguely heard them talking, she sort of saw them pull Luke Skywalker from the pit. But to her the world had stopped. |
