Chera awoke from a deep sleep, the second time in two nights she had awoken the same way. "Not again" she mumbled sleepily. This always happened whenever something important had just happened in her dreams.
This time the dream was easier to grab onto, and she saw it; the thing that she had caught last night and only gotten a glimpse of. She was in a field, her Lightsaber clutched tightly in her left hand, suddenly the ground began to shake and everything grew dark. The black almost overwhelmed her, and then just when she thought it might, crimson red began to leak in. It was pure evil she felt it. Suddenly a thin tendril shot out of the nearest side, it was black and red, chaotic, like the rest of the place. "What is this place?" she thought to herself. She sliced at the tendril, but her saber couldn't cut through it, it just bounced off. "Oh no" She said to herself. "He's back."
Jedi Knight, smuggler Sydnee Starlighter, a former smuggler for the Rebel Alliance. Smuggling goods into Hoth so that the Alliance could stay as long as they did. Her parents were Imperial Dignitaries for the Emperor. When Sydnee was born she was Abducted so that the Emperor would not find out if their child had Force abilities and could use her as he did them
Sitting in the pilots chair, in the Sol Flare a Corellian light freighter, GO-2 chimed in softly.
"I know I have to go to Naboo, but with all that has happened in the last week I don't want to bother with it." Sydnee said.
GO-2 whistled softly.
"But I need some time to mourn for Timzter. You know how it feels to loose someone, remember the R2 unit with the gold decals? He was the one that you hung around most."
GO-2 bleated noisily.
"You know you liked him."
GO-2 gave Sydnee a raspberry
Without warning an X-wing jumped out of hyperspace followed by 4 TIE Advanced. Sydnee grabbed the controls of her ship and toggled the com switch.
"This is shuttle Sol Flare. Are you need of some assistance?"
A familiar voice, but someone she didn?t know sounded on the speaker. She felt a strong presence in the Force. "That would be great Flare." With that Sydnee targeted the first TIE and launched a missile at it. With a KA-BOOM the TIE erupted into a ball of flames. The X-wing swooped left, right then arched upward and around to the backside of the following TIE. Blasting it out of space the voice yelled, "YAHOO!" The other two TIEs started to fire upon the lone X-wing. No matter what the fighter could do he couldn't escape the bombardment from both of the TIEs. From the look of the damage he sustained his hyperdrive was destroyed and his engines were shot. The other TIEs Sydnee took out with her lasers.
"What is you status?" Sydnee said.
"Well I've lost my hyperdrive and my engines are down to 15% functional. Could I get a lift to the nearest New Republic shipyard?" The man asked.
"Your pretty far out of the reach of Republic space, I can give you a lift to the nearest repair shop. By the by. What is your name?"
"Luke Skywalker."
"The Luke Skywalker?!"
"Yes, will that be a problem?"
"No not at all, it?s just that you are a Jedi Master."
"I see."
"Well then let?s get you to a repair shop."
Sydnee set Luke?s X-wing into the grip claw with the Sol Flare and started for a secret smugglers asteroid. After 6 hours of hyperspace the nav computer said that their destination was coming up soon.
"Getting ready for real space so you better strap yourself in." She told Luke. "
OK." Luke replied.
"So what brings you way out here?" Sydnee asked. Luke replied, "Well, I was following a lead of a possible student for the Academy and got tangled with on of the Warlords fleet."
"Ah, I see that you and the Imperials still can't play nice." Sydnee felt a slight shift in Luke's emotion that made her snicker. "What was that about?" Luke growled. "Oh, nothing." She replied. "What is the name of the student that you are looking for?" She continued. Luke ran his hand through his tousled hair and I could see that he was hesitant to answer. "Well, I don't know the full name of the candidate all I have is a last name. Starlighter." she shot her head back at Luke with her mouth open. "That's me, I'm Starlighter. How did you find me?" Luke grinned "I have connections. So, your Starlighter. What is your first name?"
"Sydnee." She replied.
"Nice to meet you."
"Why do you want me? I'm already trained in the ways of the Force." Sydnee told him. "But, practice makes almost perfect." Luke chuckled. "Why don't you come back with me and train at the Academy?" GO-2 wheeled in as if he was on andris spice beeping wildly. "What's wrong G0-2?" She said. "What do you mean the nav computer is wrong." GO-2 chittered some more. "Well the nav says that we are at the asteroid." Sydnee walked into the cockpit and looked out the view port. A green and blue planet hung in space. No smugglers asteroid. Just the planet. "GO-2 do you know where we are?" GO-2 warbled. "Naboo, huh. Maybe we can find some help for Luke." Just then Luke walked in "So, did you find out where we are?" Sydnee turned and faced Luke. "Naboo." "I've never heard of the place." Luke admitted. "It was a planet that was Pre-Clone Wars ruled by a queen." "Maybe I can find someone that can fix my X-wing." Luke said.
"Let's get something to eat when we get set down. I'm famished." Luke suggested.
"Sounds good. There is a little cantina that has some really good Naboo cuisine." Sydnee answered.
"How long do we have till we land?"
"A few minutes."
"Thanks"
"No problem."
Chera awoke the next morning, and flexed her left hand; she had been the only Jedi at the Academy who used her left hand. She was perfectly calm; this was the first real night's sleep she had gotten in awhile. Lately her dreams seemed full of images, nightmares, she shuddered at the thought, the nightmares had been coming from everywhere, by all rights she should be preoccupied with them, but she wasn't. She was thinking about her left hand for some reason. While she had been at the academy she had gone from being about normal to being the only one who couldn't do anything right. Or, more accurately, she could do them, but she wasn't very good at any of it. She had been the only student without a talent of some kind. While the others excelled at telekinesis and persuasion, and even one, Keiran Halcyon, had been able to project images into the minds of others. She couldn't do any of that at an average level, much less as a talent. She was marginally good at persuasion, it was the only thing she could do and normal levels, and to top it all off, the only reason Master Skywalker could think of to explain this was the dominance of her left hand, and the right half of her brain. Nobody knew exactly why that would affect anything, but as far as she knew, it did. Always the odd ball weren't you Chera? She suddenly sat up with a start. She had no idea where that voice had come from. It seemed to have come from all around her, and nowhere at the same time. Never fit in did you? They don't appreciate you, don't care. It seemed as though everything had gone dark and her bed was spinning. Then she saw it, the face that had elusively haunted her dreams since she started her Jedi training, always appearing and then vanished, leaving her with just an aura of darkness. She had expected something horrible, something terrible, something evil. She wasn't disappointed. It was the most hideous thing she had ever seen the face was black and red, it looked just like the place she had been in her dreams last night. The face smiled revealing jagged black teeth. Her danger sense flared. Her first reaction was to roll out of her bed so she could fight if she had to, her second was to grab her Lightsaber off of the night table, and she did both in one fluid motion. She ignited her saber and stood in ready position. The face laughed sinisterly, and then began to fade, as did the black leaving her standing in her bedroom in her nightclothes. She shut off the saber and put it down. This was going to far, she would have to go see Master Skywalker about this, soon, but first, she must get dressed. |
