Solo ads really are great deal.
For $50-$200 you can easily reach lists of 10000 or more. Try doing that with direct
mail.
However most people miss the big advantage of this, which is the publishers relationship with the subscribers. They just blast out an ad thats been used over and over.
I subscribe to over a hundred newsletters and I swear the same headline will pop up in 30 emails a day. Will I read it, no, and likely neither will many others.
When a publisher does a mailing to their own list they pull a much higher response. The subscribers already know and trust the publisher. They know nothing about you.
So how do you get around this? Two Ways:
1. Ask for the publishers opinion
Before you purchase the ad send an email to the publisher asking for their opinion on the product you will be advertising. It should go something like this
Subject: Publisher Name, solo ad
Hi Name,
My name is your name and I want to purchase a solo ad in your ezine. Before I do this though I just wanted to hear your opinion on your prouduct before I advertise it in your ezine. If you havent read it already here is a complimentary copy:
your product link
If you could just send a few comments on it to me I would greatly appreciate it.
Salutation,
Your name
Email
Website
If the publisher sends you positive comments on your product ask them if you could quote them in the ad. Then you should build your ad around their comments. It could look something like this:
Subject: Publisher Name Shocked Me
I was stunned when I opened my email to see a reply from Publisher name.
I had asked him/her a day earlier if she could tell me what she/he thought of my new product type (book, software, etc) product name
You think with how busy he/she is that he/she would only have time to say a few words if anything at all, but heres what she had to say:
Publishers comments
2. The second thing is making an offer exclusive to this newsletter. Your ad could continue like this:
I was quite touched, so I decided to show gratitude by giving a special offer to you her/his subscriber. This offer is for ezine name subscribers and no one else. You won't see this offer anywhere else but here.
Youre Offer
Youre Link
Your offer should be big. Give them a discount, free bonuses, a time limit etc. If you follow these two steps you will get a lot more for your money when it comes to buying solo ads.
