The SIMMERS Family Tartan and History!

SIMMERS family history, starting about the
1100's, an ancient and illustrious family.
Clan Information --

Through the centuries the SIMMERS family
was affiliated with many different clans
through marriage. The clan LINDSAY claims
the SIMMERS family as a sept or directly
affiliated family, entitled to clan rights
including the use of the clan tartan.

The SIMMERS family first appears in the
records of Roxburghshire where they were
recorded as an ancient Roxburghshire family
before the year 1100.

The notable SIMMERS family is shown in
the ancient manuscripts and cartularies
as tracing their ancestry to Boernician
origin. The most ancient SIMMERS family
Coat of Arms was recorded between the
12th and 15th centuries.

I suggest you may want to look at "Family Tree
Maker" CD ROM #193 country & family histories,
PA 1740-1900 disk 1 page 1117;1118;1119 for
some data on a Daniel Simmers (Smeyres) 7a George.
The English authorities of the era had a
propensity for changing spelling to their version
of English and required loyally oath for all persons
emigrating to the colonies there are many branches
of the SIMMERS family originally from the
Scotland --England border area circa 1200! They were
declared outlaws abt 1500 and disbursed to the
Shetland Islands; Scotland; Wales; Ireland; Holland;
& Germany to break up the clan and surpresss rebellion!
The family crest or shield is black with a gold
chevron & 3 duck heads on it.
I trust this is of some value to you
