Julia K. Simmers, widow of Daniel W. Simmers, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James K. Vessey, Corner Stores, on Sunday morning. Mrs. Simmers, who was 84 years old, was taken ill about seven weeks ago, and complications incident to her age developed which caused her death. Mrs. Simmers was a daughter of the late William and Mary Turner and was born at Birdsboro. As a young girl the family moved to Phoenixville, and resided there and at Corner Stores the balance of her life. She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church. She Is survived by four children Harry Simmers, of Phoenixville; May Robinson, of Hastings-on-the-Hudson, New York, Mrs. Jarnes K. Vessey, Corner Stores, and Daniel Simmers, of Etna, PA. Also by one sister, Mrs Elmira Black, aged 90, of North Dakota and 12 grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. (taken from Local 10/24/1939)

Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Simmers, of this city, announce the marriage of their daughter, Jean, and Mr. William Cunningham, also of this city, at Elkton, Md., on Saturday, July 13th. Attending the ceremony were: Mr. and Mrs. Pennock Simmers, aunt and uncle of the bride; Mrs. Irvin Simmers, the bride's mother, Miss Sophie Simmers, sister of the bride; and Mr. Ivan Vanderslice, friend of the bridegroom. We recently gave an account of the illness of Joseph Simmers, living in West Vincent township, this county, caused by gantrene produced by having his feet frozen. One of his legs was amputated a few days ago, but this proved to be of no avail. The disease had attacked his whole system and it was soon found that there was no hope for him, and on Thursday last he died. (taken from Local 3/17/1883)

Joseph Simmers, one of West Vincent’s oldest citizens, was buried on Monday. In the fall, gangrene made its appearance in one of his feet and seemed the only hope, was to amputate the limb below the knee. The operation was performed by Drs. Morris Fussel and Prizer of Lionville. About two weeks after the amputation was performed, his sufferings became intense and on Friday evening last death came to his relief. A large assemblage of relatives and friends assembled at the M.E. Church at Nantmeal Corner, East Nantmeal township, Chester County, on Sunday, to pay the last tribute of affection and respect to the memory of Mrs. Julia Simmers. The church was so crowded that the people could not all obtain seats. The services commenced by the Sunday School class, of which Mrs. Simmers was teacher, singing a beautiful piece. An appropriate and eloquent sermon was delivered by Rev. J. A. Cooper, pastor of the church, from the last clause of the 19th verse of the 14th chapter of St. John. Letters were read from several former pastors of the congregation - Revs. J.W. Harkins and Thomas Kirkspatrick of Philadelphia; Rev. J.R. Bailey of Bird-in-Hand, and Rev. L.D. McClintock of Gap, Lancaster County, expressing the deepest sorrow for the decease of Mrs. Simmers. - Pottstown Ledger (taken from Local 3/13/1884)

Yesterday the wife of Justice of the Peace, Joseph Simmers, West Nantmeal, died from the grip. She had been ill for a couple of weeks. One child survives her, another died about a year ago. She was about 38 or 40 years of age. Her funeral will take place on Monday next. (taken from Local 1/19/1894)

John G. Simmers, 63, who resided with Charles I. Wilson, Honey Brook, RD 1, died Sunday in Ephrata Community Hospital. Born in Wagontown, he was a son of the late Frederick and Isabelle Simmers, and resided most of his life in the Suplee area. Before his illness, he was employed as a carpenter by Clyde Reese, Downingtown. He attended the Honey Brook Methodist Church and was a member of Honey Brook Fire Co. and Honey Brook Rod and Gun Club. Surviving are a brother and two sisters: Frederick A. Simmers, Phoenixville RD; Miss Dora Simmers, Ephrata; and Mrs. John Elsworth, Wilkes-Barre. Also these half sisters and a half brother; Charles Steely, Coatesville RD; Margaret, wife of George Nunemaker, Honey Brook; Mrs. Jesse Lafferty and Mrs. Warren Patton, both of Narvon RD. Joseph Walter Simmers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert M. Simmers, of Corner Stores, died yesterday morning at the Phoenixville Hospital, following an illness of almost six months duration with kidney and heart trouble. The deceased was aged about 39 years and was employed as a mechanical engineer at the Bethlehem Steel Company. He is survived by his widow, father and mother and the following brothers and sisters: Robert J. of Philadelphia; Clayton M., Mrs. Roberta MacLaughlin of Philadelphia; Edna Simmers of Phoenixville, and Mrs. Ella Freed of Collegeville. In West Nantmeal township, on February 13, 1922, John Simmers, aged 70 years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral without further notice from the residence of Clark Trego, near Barneston, PA, on Thursday, February 16. John Simmers, formerly of Barren Hill, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clark Trego, of Barneston, early in the week, was buried in the Honeybrook Methodist Cemetery on Thursday after services at the house. On Sunday afternoon one of the largest double funerals took place that has occurred here for some years, when the bodies of Joseph Simmers, formerly of this place, but for a number of years living in the Masonic Home in Philadelphia and his sister, Mrs. Frank Spohn, of Coventryville, were carried to their last resting place. The funeral took place from Mrs. Spohn’s late residence, near Coventryville. Short services were conducted at the house, after which the cortege proceeded to the M. E. Church of this place, where services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. D.??? The choir sang the following hymns. "Some Sweet Day", "Does Jesus ??? and "Fade, Fade Each Earthly Day". Mr. Simmers was a member of Howell Lodge, F. & A. M. in Honeybrook, of which about thirty members attended administering the rites of the dead. The pall bearers were members of the Masonic Lodge. Six ???? of Mrs. Spohn bore her to her last resting place. The floral tributes were many and numerous. Undertaker Grant Mauger of Warwick and Everett Mauger of Birdsboro, had charge. Clyde E. Simmers, an employee of the Luken Steel Co., for 41 years, died last night after a brief illness. He was 59. Husband of Grace Smith Simmers, Coatesville RD 3, he was born in West Grove, son of the late Harry W. and Abbie Alloways Simmers. He was a foreman in the paint shop at Lukens, where he worked for 41 years. Mr. Simmers was a member of the Lukens Veteran’s Guild and the Coatesville BPOE. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Oldham, Cottage City, MD., and Linda, wife of Edwin Riley, Coatesville RD 4. Also surviving are four brothers, Pennock of Coatesville RD 1, George of Coatesville, Paul of West Grove and Alvin of Chester; also four sisters, Mrs. Violet Griffin, Landenberg; Mrs. Juanita Miller, Miami, FL; and Mrs. Anna Morris and Mrs. Helen Powell, both Coatesville. On Thursday, October 7th, Lavinia Jane Simmers died suddenly. Deputy Coroner Charles M. Griffith was notified and empannelled the following jury of inquest; John P. McCord, Elijah Shingle, John Dengler, John Hemming, Lewis H. Plift, Wm. Sypherd. At the examination it was found that the deceased had died from epileptic fits, to which she had been subject and the verdict was in accordance therewith. (taken from Local 10/11/1880)

Linda Carol, infant daughter of Richard and Dorothy Loggan Simmers, 356 South First Avenue, died yesterday at Coatesville Hospital The funeral will be held at the convenience of the family at the Wentz funeral home, 342 East Chestnut Street. (taken from Republican 7/20/1949)

Lettie Todd Simmers, widow of Samuel Simmers, and daughter of the late Winfield and Esther Keeley Todd, of Upper Uwchlan township, died yesterday at the home of her daughter, Esther Simmers Kimball, in Sinclair, Wyoming. She was in the 69th year of her age. Mrs. Simmers was born in Upper Uwchlan township, but had been making her home with her daughter since the death of her husband. She is survived by her daughter and a son, Robert Simmers, of Philadelphia. There are three grandchildren. Notice of the funeral will be published later. (taken from Local 1/18/1945)

Three people died and four others were injured at 1:445 p.m. yesterday in a head-on collision on Rt. 202 in Thornbury Township, Delaware County, six miles south of West Chester near the 202 Drive-In Theater. Fatally injured were an elderly Downingtown man, a Coatesville woman and her two-year old granddaughter. Media state police said the dead were R. Roy Arters, 68, of Guthriesville, Downingtown RD1, the operator of one of the two cars. He was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m. yesterday of head injuries at the Memorial Hospital of Chester County, West Chester. Mrs. Virginia M. Simmers, 57, of 2221 Harley St., Coatesville was pronounced dead on arrival at Riddle Memorial Hospital, Media, of a severed spinal chord and Linda Simmers, 2, of Hialeah, FL was pronounced dead on arrival at Chester County Hospital, West Chester of head injuries. Mrs. Simmers and her granddaughter were passengers in the Arters car. Two of the injured were also passengers in the Arters car. Mrs. Marian Simmers, 23, of Hialeah, FL, Linda's mother, was listed in fair condition today at Memorial Hospital with possible fractures of the left hip and wrist, a concussion and cuts. Virginia Simmers, 5, Linda's sister, was in satisfactory condition at Memorial Hospital with abrasion of the chin and lip. Linda Simmers was born in Hialeah, the daughter of Clarence M. and Mary DeLoach Simmers, Jr. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Virginia, and her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Alma DeLoach, of Miami, Florida.
