Simmers and related surnames in Scotland!

NEW! Poetry and Doll Maker with Galleries!     [Learn About Our Ecommerce]
Graphics Gallery!

This Website is intended, solely, to provide assistance to
to interested researchers of the "Simmers", and Simmers
related surnames. This is done by providing a Listing of
individuals and families, who originated in the various
shires or counties of Scotland, in a way that is designed
to make the identification of Parents, their Offspring,
and siblings, more apparent!

The history of the Simmers surname in Scotland is said to
go back to a time before 1100 A.D.! From Scotland, so the
story goes, the Simmers' settled in various parts of Europe
and The British Isles. Simmers appears to be an English
version of a Gaelic or Celtic Surname, which may account
for all of the various spellings that will be found on
these pages.

The compilation of this information is very time consuming,
as is the time to format it for placement on the website!
Consequently, it is necessary for those visitors, who feel
that this information would be of substantial value to you,
to inform us by making an entry in our Guest Book, and/or
Posting a message on our Message Board!!

We will present this information, county by county,
alphabetically, beginning with those which begin with the
letter A (Aberdeen & Angus are complete), and adding
counties until there are no more to add. Consequently, if
at first you do not see a county that you are researching,
keep coming back until you find it here!

In compiling and re-arranging the individual entries, it
was found that the same persons are mentioned, using one
variation of the spelling of the surname in one place, and
often, using another spelling in another place! Therefore,
it is quite likely, that a researcher viewing a mere list
of surnames alphabetically, from A to Z, might not notice
the changes, readily, if at all! By re-arranging individuals,
first, according to counties or shires, and then by townships
or hamlets, the relationships between the surnames and
given names becomes more clear! Although this has only been
done, so far, in Aberdeen. It is significant, nonetheless.
After careful inspection, it would be difficult to not
conclude
, the various surnames, of Symer, Symmer,
Symmers, Simer, Simmer, and Simmers, are somehow
directly related, and were used inter-changeably. This,
either through ignorance, mistakes in recording, custom,
or for some particular purpose!

It very well could be, that the form of the surname used,
may have been and effort to delineate the members of one
brother's family, or one cousin's family, from another's!
Equally as likely, is that the form of the surname used,
could be as simple, as the "Formal Form" and the "Informal
Form", the Gaellic Form or the Anglican Form. In other
words, the Scotish Form or The English Form?

So far, the earliest Simmersspelling, appears to
have been in England, dating back to around, 1200 A.D.!

One of the principal reasons for this website, is an effort
to present information, already available, but difficult to
use, in a useable format, and to stimulate the free exchange
of information and research, by interested parties, regarding
the earliest Simmers individuals, and those who may have left
their homes in the Bristish Isles, for perceived opportunities
in The New World or "The Lands Down Under"!

Please Post any such information as you might have, on our
MESSAGE BOARD! Your assistance is greatly appreciated!!

Don't fail to make an entry in our Guest Book, at the very
least! It's your way of supporting the efforts that went
into the creation of Simmerscot1 website, and it will, in
large part, determine whether we go forward with the same
treatment in all of the other counties in Scotland!!

Sincerely,

Tom Simmers, in California
