Tragic Accident Claims Life
Laurie Jean Carpenter, 17, died Thursday, April 20, 2000
Laurie Jean Carpenter was killed in a motor vehicle accident April 20, 2000, only
a month before her 18th birthday and high school graduation. Laurie was well known and
liked by many people and shared friendships with many that knew her. Laurie was a unique
individual who had the charms and personality that would make anyone feel happy. She
always smiled and laughed making the best of any situation she faced. Her family and friends
were always an important priority in her life.
Laurie was a member of the Future Farmers of America, homecoming queen nominee, and a
member of the softball team where she was the team's second baseman and clean up batter
for most of the year, and received All-District Honorable Mention. Laurie will be missed by all.
Friends remembered Laurie by placing butterfly stickers on the front windshields of their cars,
and In Memory of (20) Laurie Carpenter stickers on the rear window.
Today, our world is not as whole as it was yesterday,
The sun does not emit as glorious of rays.
The stars do not sparkle with their familiar sheen.
For today, the Lord claimed and took home His angel,
Laurie Jean.
Today, our sorrow and loss will bring us to our knees.
Our immense grief will test what we believe.
Our love will command that our spirits rise up high.
Today, our strength will be required to let go and say,
"good-bye".
Yesterday, her smile and contagious laugh belonged to us.
Her dreams and hopes were held within our trust.
Her beautiful spirit captivated our hearts and minds.
Yesterday, her gifts were not a collection of past times.
Yesterday, a mother and father held her in their embrace.
They lessened her worries and wiped tears from her face.
A sister listened earnestly to her tender schemes.
A baby called her Aunt LaLa and a young man filled her dreams.
Yesterday, family ties brought security and joy to her heart.
Lifelong friendships emerged that can never be torn apart.
She touched so many lives in the span of her seventeen years.
Memories of her will both create and restrain our tears.
Tomorrow, our lives will never be the same.
Grief may fade, but emptiness will remain.
When suffering overflows your hearts like a rushing stream,
Find hope in the dimpled smile of an angel named
Laurie Jean.
