Hello.
This is the new Shar Pei Fun f.a.q. section. It will be updated every week. Here are some of your F.A.Q'S that most people seem to ask thei vets, breeders, and web site makers.
1:"How many times should I feed my Chineese Shar Pei??"
Well,it is best to feed 2 or 3 small meals per day, simply dividing up the appropriate amount to maintain a good weight for you dog. There is some evidence that this helps prevent a pretty much deadly conditon bloat. Bloat is the over stuffing of a dog to a point in which it can hold no more.Always keep plenty of fresh water available for your pet.
2:"Are Shar pei a rare breed?"
20 years ago, there were just 100 dogs, and they were the worlds rarest breed. Then people in China became intested in saving the breed. In August 1992, The Shar Pei entered the AKC non sporting group and over 70,00 dogs were registered as foundation stock which means the akc was able to save 70,00 shar peis in august of 92'. That says a whole bunch of good for our breed.
3:"Are Shar Pei's expensive to buy?"
When the Shar Pei were first registered, they were VERY expensive. So expensive they were even showcased in the christmas catalog of the popular expensive catalog named the Neiman-Marcus Christmas catolog. Now Shar Pei's are about the same price you'd pay for any other breed, about 500-1,000$...depending on the show quality or full breed of the dog.
4:"Are Shar Pei's cropped or clipped?"
You know those tiny little oh so cute ears on their head??Well, those are all natural.
5:"Do Shar Pei come in all colors?"
Shar Pei come in just about every color. Some of the colors are Black, red, red fawn, fawn, black pointed cream, sable,chocolate-dillute,sable-dillute,appricoat-dillute,and cream-dillute. When in show, any solid color is acceptable, but albinoism,patches,patterns,sadle-patterns,and 2 toned patterns are a disqualification. Dilute colored dogs have solid lavender tounges. Black pinted dogs have solid black to dark gray tounges. A Pink is a major Fault...and a spotted tounge is a major fault. |
