Humans have had many encounters with sharks, some more horrifying than others.
Here you will find some that I have been told, if you have any to add just email us and
we will add them to this page. You might agree that some of these aren't exactly
standard bedtime reading.
1. One summers day in America a couple of boys were playing beside a river,
swimming, diving, splashing each other, the usual sort of thing. Suddenly one of the
boys who was swimming in the river started screaming. He splashed about and was
being pulled under and didn't seem to be able to get away. Another man who was
walking nearby ran in to save him and was able to grab the boys arm and drag him to
shore. On the way, however, he felt something bump his leg. When he got the boy to
the shallow water and could let go of him he had a very nasty shock. His right leg
was missing. All he had left was torn muscle and skin. It turned out that there had
been very few fish that year, and one of the river sharks had gotten so hungry that it
had gone to the lengths to try to eat a human, with scary consequences.
2. Another time there were some surfers in California out in the sea. Suddenly one
guy was knocked off his board by one of the waves, but no one took any notice
because it had already happened to all of the other surfers loads of times that day, and
it was a usual thing. But after a minute or two one of the other guys noticed this other
man's board still floating in the water by itself. He called over his friend and they
agreed that something must have happened, so the surfers paddled back to shore and
called the life guards. The life guards then went out in their boats to see if they could
find the man. After a while they found him, he had a big chunk of flesh taken out of
his side from a shark bite and he was unconcious. They lifted him into the boat and
rushed him to hospital. He had to have skin grafts and plastic surgery, but he did
survive.
3. Once there was another surfer out in Australia when a shark swam into the bay.
The shark did attempt to attack this man but his board saved him. As the skark swam
towards the man he paniced and started to paddled towards the shore as quickly as
possible, when the shark reached the man it lifted its head above the water and was
just about to bite when the man scrambled off the other side of the board. Instead of
being eaten alive, the man only lost his half of his surf board and a thumb. The man
kept his board as a reminder of his escape, as if he would need one!
4.Recently in Florida there have been two attacks by sharks. One man was ok and only needed a few stitches, but the other was a little boy and wasn't quite so lucky. He was swimming out in the sea when a shark approached and unable to get away he had his arm bitten off and he was quickly driven to hospital in an ambulance. Just after the boy left his arm was found on the shore line and another ambulance had to take it to the hospital so that it could be sewn on. However in its hurry to get to the hospital the ambulance crashed and another ambulance had to be sent out to retrieve the severed arm. Not a very happy day for the boy! |
