Applique
A decoration or design made separately, then embroidered or sewn on a fabric.

Batting
A machine washable fluffy polyester fibre used as a filler for quilted items.

Beeswax
A substance sold at fabric or craft stores for the purpose of coating thread when hand quilting or embroidering. It helps to prevent thread from knotting or tangling.

Bias
A cut or line in a diagonal direction to the threads that run straight in a piece of fabric.

Bias Tape
A narrow fabric that has been cut on the bias which gives it maximum flexibility.

Cable Cord
A white cotton cord sold at fabric stores in a variety of widths. When covered with fabric, it is used to finish edges of upholstered items.

Fiberfill
A fluffy polyester fiber, looking similar to bulk cotton, used for stuffing pillows and soft sculpture.

Fusible Interfacing
A non-woven fabric with heat activated fusing on one side. Used to stiffen or strengthen fabrics.

Fusible Webbing
Has adhesive on both sides. Used to bond fabrics so that they can be sewn together.

Heavy Duty Thread
Carpet or Button Thread.

Pillow Form
A pre-shaped covered form.

Secure Stitches
Back stitch 3 or 4 stitches to secure threads or the threads at the beginning and end of seams.

Tailor's Chalk
A chalk pencil or chip used to mark fabrics.

Water Soluble Pen
Used for marking fabric because the mark can be erased with a damp cloth.
