Who was Sequoyah? What is his importance to modern Cherokee life? What is his influence on the way that Cherokees are viewed by themselves and others? Is there a difference in how Euro-Americans and Cherokees view him and his accomplishments? This site is an exploration of who Sequoyah was, and who he became. I hope to make this site a study of how Sequoyah is viewed and used as a cultural icon. I'm currently working on my Master's degree in anthropology, and am doing my thesis on this great man. I would like to hear how others view Sequoyah and his accomplishments (such as his invention of the Cherokee syllabary, his role in unifying the Eastern and Western Cherokees after the Trail of Tears, or just his life in general). All responses will be anonymous, unless you wish otherwise.
