The first basic step in learning to become
successful is that we must all realize that
we are not totally helpless and we are
responsible for the calibre (quality) of our days.


--# STEP ONE---

Our primary task in order to begin to HEAL
our planet Earth is to heal our inner wounds.
The ugly destruction that many men have
perpetrated upon this planet---such as :
WARS, CRIMES, RACISM, POLLUTION, etc.
----are but mirror reflections of their innner
wounds & traumas and inner dis-ease.

We must embark upon the job of looking
within to learn more about our own behavior
patterns, past traumas, and dis-ease
that may be still haunting us now.
Emotional hurts can be crippling for many of us.
Sometimes we get hurt because of the loss of a
loved one---death or divorce. It takes time to heal
these types of wounds. If you have been hurt thru
such a loss, take time to grieve,
pamper yourself and to heal.

Many people spend a lot of time dwelling on
their problems...on what did not go right....on
how something failed....and generally
having a "pitty-party" for themselves.

Little do they realize that
WHATEVER YOU FOCUS YOUR ENERGY,
TIME, & TALK on
---is what the universe will return to you.

WHY? Because the subconscious mind records thoughts
and helps them to manifest into reality.

The famous children's story titled:
"The Little Train Who Could" is an excellent example
of how our thinking can lead us to great achievements.
The little train in the story was able to use positive
affirmations--- "I think I can"--- which he repeated to
himself over and over, until he accomplished what seemed
to be impossible.

SO---
"Say something positive to yourself!" --- "Everyday!"...

In times of pain or tradegy a lot of people turn to
"religion"---seeking guidance, comfort, and a way
to explain life. Participation in religious activities
also offers a situation wherein we learn more and
can meet other people and find support in a group.

Scholars have found that people who participate in
some type of "religion" or spiritually-based
group do live longer and happier lives.

Jesus taught the same principles hundreds of years ago.
His main message dealt with overcoming life's challenges
and becoming a highly evolved loving human being who
helped others. Jesus taught LOVE
--- which is the main law of the universe.
His message is the same as that of all the other wise men,
prophets and sages. Each man must come to a knowledge
of himself. All of these various religious labels
(e.g.---Christian, Buddhist, Jew, Muslim, etc.)....
have weak superficial meanings
--unless they address the TRUE ESSENCE
of the spiritual messages.

The search for your "true inner self" or "inner child" ---
( that inner spiritual voice)
---is a spiritual activity that embrasses all of the
major religions. It is not *special* to Christians, Jews,
or to Muslims. This work does not require that you
wear any special clothing or learn any new foreign
language.

In the Islamic religion---there is a concept called
"Jihad," which many have mis-interpreted.
"Jihad" means "struggle or fighting against an enemy."
The greatest "Jihad" is the battle or struggle to tame,
civilize and improve YOUR OWN SELF.

There are many types of 'TRAUMAS'
(wounds, injuries, etc.)--- that harm us
in a mental or spiritual way.....

The worst are those that effect our entire state
of mind and emotions....such as the--- "way of life
that we adopt." Many innocent people who have
been looking for friendship, love and acceptance
---trying to fill a void in their emotions--- have found
themselves caught up in a CULT, in which they are
controlled by someone else's wishes and rules.
People who operate cults have taken many of
these religious principles and used them to "control"
other people.

Whereas, true spirituality will set you free.

We must be extremely careful in not allowing
"dogmatic beliefs & ideas" to interfere with our life.
More often than not, there is a stereotype
that is associated with a dogmatic idea.

FOR EXAMPLE....HERE IS A DOGMATIC CONCEPT: ...
"All women should cover their faces because
the mere sight of a woman's face causes men
to be sexually aroused and that is sinful."
** (or something similar)...

Adolf Hitler preached a lot of dogmatic principles
--especially concerning the supremacy of White
people. None of his beliefs were based upon
scientific facts or even sensible logic.

Often times people get caught up in more subtle
forms of these ideas---and do not even belong
to a group or cult.

There are many men who think that women are
inferior and that women should not be allowed
the same rights and pay as men.

There are many so-called "educated" people
who believe in the fallacy of 'racial superiority."
There are many White people who believe deeply
that there is a biological reason that Negroes
are "inferior to whites." These types of ugly,
harmful dogmatic ideas can be found in many
places....or come from TV shows, magazines,
and other media.

Sometimes, these types of ideas have been
promoted through the educational and/or
psychological arenas, such as via people
like Sigmund Freud or C. G. Jung...or some
other psychiatrist.

Many people fanatically adhere to every word
that ever came out of a psychologist's mouth,
simply because they held the title of "psychologist."
Little do many folks realize---psychology
is not an exact science. "Psychology" is a field that was
developed from other non-factual arenas, such as:
sociology, emotions, behavioral studies, and
theories based in "the effects of environment"
upon behavior.

Of course, the study of psychology can be very helpful---
but it is not the "gospel" truth for all issues and difficulties.

Many of us have seen these types of groups on TV or
in magazines---but fail to recognize the harm that they
bring to many of their members. In cults, members lose
much of their own personal freedom to think and have
an honest opinion of their own. They have become like
little puppets or robots for the group to which they belong.
The leader(s) dictate to the members what they can do,
eat, wear and think.

One of the best authors on this topic is John Bradshaw.
He and others in this field have produced
some very good books
and exercises that can help heal
the wounds from the past.

--# STEP TWO---

**ENHANCE YOUR SELF-IMAGE:

One of your most important assets is
your "self-image." What is self-image?
Although you cannot touch it or see it, it is real.

Self-image is your picture of yourself
(that you see in your own imagination).
It is your opinion of yourself.
It is your judgement of yourself.
It is the value you hold of yourself.

A strong self-image is almost synonymous
with 'fulfillment'--
and a weak self-image is synonymous
with frustration.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
IN THIS WORLD IS--not a stroke of luck,
a genie or a fairy godmother
(although they would certainly be a help)---
YOU NEED STRENGTH FIRING FROM WITHIN YOU.

TO BE HAPPY, SUCCESSFUL, CONFIDENT,
CREATIVE, AND THRIVING, YOU MUST
BOLSTER YOUR SELF-IMAGE---

*Love yourself.
*Refuse to quit on yourself.
*Be a friend to yourself.
*Gain wisdom.
*Learn skills.
*Take positive action.
*Strive for good health.
*Do something challenging.
*Enjoy humor and comedy. Laugh!

INFLUENCES OF PAST EXPERIENCES...

Within each person lies a vast
store-house of experiences and feelings
---failures and successes.

Those experiences are stored on the
neural engrams (subconscious) of your
grey matter (mind).
Each one is as true as the other.
The choice is yours as to which tape
you choose to play back.

The past influences the present and the present does
influence the past. We are not doomed to the past.
These neural engrams can be changed or modified,
much like a tape recording---or replaced.

Some psychologists would have us believe that
past traumas,injuries and upsets are
'permanent damage,' but science has
proven that this is not true.

Old recordings, old patterns of thought, old reactions,
old memories can be changed.

Because someone had an unhappy childhood does
not necessarily doom him/her to be unhappy forever!

Our present thinking (mind set) ---present mental habits,
and our present attitudes towards those past experiences
do influence and change what happens in the present and
the future.

Discover your inner child...and you will also find old
behaviors and feelings that are still effecting your life
now. One of the best authors who writes on this subject
is John Bradshaw.

Also there is a lot of good reading material
in Oprah Winfrey's magazine.

BEGIN by examining your childhood experiences....

* Were your parents kind, supportive and loving?
* Did you have a father who beat on you?
* Were you forced to behave a certain way toward different races?
* What did you learn to do to get along with others?
* Did you grow up with an abusive parent?
* Did you grow up with a parent who spoiled
and smothered you?
* What type of environment did you grow up in?
* Were you taught to handle responsibility...or
were you simply given everything?
* Did you get your way by throwing fits when
you wanted something?
* Did you feel safe in your home?
* Were you wild and uncontrollable in your youth?
* Did you have to live in a racially hostile situation?

ANSWERS to these types of questions will help you
assess why you act the way you do now as a grown-up
person. It will also aid you in understanding the
behavior of others.

All of these old behaviors may not be in your best interest
in the real adult world. Find out which ones are effecting
you in your later years that may be causing problems.

It is not about your age---it is about your attitude....
how you react to circumstances.

Your attitude helps determine your altitude!

By focusing our mind upon happy, positive, progressive,
pleasant, uplifting, healthy thoughts, ideas, concepts,
and experiences---we automatically diminish the effects
of past traumas. If you choose, you can put on a new
record and reactivate success patterns and feelings of joy.


.......REAL LIFE EXAMPLES---

* One example of how terrible past
experiences may have traumatized someone---
is in how women have been treated historically.

Throughout most of history WOMEN have been seen
by societies as 'second-class citizens
(useless, baby-making-machines), unimportant,
and worse.

Women have been mis-treated and victimized,
simply because of their physical appearance
and gender.

Does a girl who grew up under an abusive
father have to remain a 'pitiful victim'
as an adult? Does that mean that women
in modern society cannot change their status?
... change their lifestyles? Did women remain
in their lower class roles?

Certainly, many women did not believe or
accept such mis-treatment----

Look at the lives of women like Sojourner Truth,
Harriet Tubman, and Susan B. Anthony.
They chose to hear a different drummer!

PEOPLE OF DIFFERING RACES OR ETHNIC GROUPS?

--# STEP THREE---

*CHANGE YOUR MENTAL IMAGERY
AND YOU AUTOMATICALLY CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!

HOW TO PLAY BACK YOUR 'BUILT-IN'
SUCCESS PATTERNS---

Everyone has had experiences of success.
It does not have be a major accomplishment.
It might be something very simple, such as
helping a friend to learn to read....or
winning a race at the club picnic.

What is important is that
FEELING OF SUCCESS--that marvelous
feeling of winning---
that you experienced when you made
your previous accomplishment.


*WHAT DID YOU DO THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG?

Swimming, camping out, skating,
taking a walk in the woods,
fishing, riding a bike, playing
basketball, football, volleyball...??????

Whatever activity made you feel happy, satisfied,
and fulfilled---continue to do them now.
Even if you are over 40--- movement and
exercise is of great benefit to you.

Physical activity has many benefits---
it helps you stay fit and healthy; it causes
the blood to circulate better, which in turn brings
more oxygen to the organs of the body----
it helps fight off boredom & depression;
it stimulates hormones & muscles
of your body....

and many other fantastic rewards can be
derived from participating in activities.

*** USE MENTAL EXERCISES:

a) Take time each day to sit quietly
and remember those times when you were
successful, happy and felt satisfied.

b) In your mind, revive those good
memories in as much detail as you can...
recall the smells, the sounds, the faces,
the weather, the clothes, etc.

c) The more you can tap into these
past good memories, the more you will
re-generate those feelings of success,
fulfillment & happiness.

Now, after you have aroused those wonderful feelings
---put your mind upon present challenges.
Use your creative imagination to see yourself
being successful in these present-day endeavors
---just as you were in the past.

Fear, discouragement, anxiety, lack of confidence, etc.
--all originate in your mind.
These negative attitudes mean that you are re-activating
those old recordings of past failures or past traumas.

They mean that you under-estimate your abilities or
you over-estimate the obstacles that you face.

Knowing all of this--you are now free to
accept or reject these recordings.
You can obey the negative attitudes or you
can choose to replace them
with more positive ones.

When we are listening to music on the
radio and we dislike the song being played
----what do we do? Most of us
CHANGE THE CHANNEL...in order to hear music
that is pleasing to us.



--# STEP FOUR---

*STUDY AND PRACTICE WAYS OF STAYING WELL
AND NATURALLY HEALING YOUR BODY...

Get away from using alcohol, cigarettes,
drugs, junk food---and any other bad habits
that you may have which degrade your well-being.
There are many good books on the market .

--- PHYSICAL EXERCISE ALSO HELPS...

If you are not in good physical health....
it will be very difficult to focus
other areas of your life...so make
'GOOD HEALTH'... A WAY OF LIFE.

reciting affirmations, and similar techniques which
programmed their minds for success and happiness.

Feeling follows imagery. Feelings coincide
with what our nervous system accepts as "real"
or "true." So in order to become happy,
fulfilled, successful, healthy, (and so on)
---we must fill the mind with desirable
pictures, imagery, and memories.


LEARN TO LAUGH....have some fun, enjoy comedy.
Watch sitcoms on TV.

OFTEN TIMES IT HELPS TO DECORATE YOUR
HOME, FAMILY ROOM, CLASSROOM OR OFFICE WITH
PICTURES, POSTERS, ART-WORK AND OTHER
POSITIVE IMAGES THAT UPLIFT YOU.

--# STEP SIX---

UNIVERSAL LAWS...

Once we begin to understand the workings
of the mind, the next step toward living
a successful life is to learn about
the universal laws...or "Laws of Life."

As we begin to understand these laws and apply them,
anything we want can be created. They are the same
laws that govern Nature and cause living things to
manifest. The ultimate source of all Creation is
divine Spirit.

This Universe where we live operates based upon laws.

Here are 5 examples:

*"The Law of UNITY"---
Everything in the universe is
connected. All came from ONE
source.

*"The Law of GIVING & RECEIVING"---
We must be willing to give, in order
to receive the abundance of the
Universe in our lives.

*"The Law of CAUSE & EFFECT"----
For everything that happens (effect)---
there was something that caused it.

*"The Law of RECIPROCITY"---
Treat Others As you wish to be Treated.
Some refer to this Law as "The Golden Rule."
This is another Universal Law that relates
to the idea that you will get back that
which you put out.
.....The BIBLE states it this way---
"You will reap what you sow."

Some people explain this law this way:
"What goes around, come around...."


*"The Law of DHARMA"---
which says that we all have a purpose.
The Ultimate Goal is to find
one's Purpose in life and to blend that with
service to others.

ULTIMATELY --ALL OF THESE LAWS ARE BASED UPON
THE SUPREME LAW OF LOVE. GOD IS LOVE.

--- DOES ASTROLOGY EFFECT US??..
MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT ASTROLOGY
is a living science that actually effects and helps
determine our behavior.

True science or not???---
It is a fact that those who have studied "astrology" in
depth have found many common patterns of behavior
among people born on certain dates....

Most "experts" in this field of Astrology
do NOT use it so much to try to predict one's FATE or
the future or to direct one's life as if we have no choices,
--- but rather they use it to help analyze
and assess one's entire personality, behavior patterns,
and character. It has been well documented in books
that some people born under certain Sun Signs do
better in certain jobs or occupations that in others.

For instance--- Capricorns are well-known to be enterprising,
