produced by promoter S. Tyrone Ingram of the Oakland based promotional company Fox Ingram Enterprise who says the video is produced and distributed as a promotion to all of the entertainers involved who over the year's have truly paid their dues here on the west coast.
by showing the artists actually performing at The SEEN Festival is part of their promoting themselves to other entities, not only is it the perfect way to get booked and noticed by the "right people" in the industry but, it is also a way for the artists to show that they've acually paid their dues....and around here you haven't paid your dues until you've performed on a SEEN Music Series show we are here to let everybody know that we are the promoters to deal with here in the bay!" ---------------------The SEEN Festival (2003 festival review)------------------------

On Saturday afternoon August 16th, many in Berkeley California's historic People's Park witnessed what was for a certainty a day of much-needed reggae bubblin, roots and culture, As once again reggae festival promoter S. Tyrone Ingram of the Oakland, California based entertainment company; Fox Ingram Enterprise, staged once again the ever-growing SEEN Festival that after this exciting show, is now heading into it 9th consecutive and successful year.
This year Mr. Ingram really made a major move, bringing in Jamaican roots reggae superstar and veteran performer; Prezident Brown who had The SEEN Festival crowd of over 3200+ (a SEEN festival attendance record) in a complete frenzy. Prezident Brown mesmerized The SEEN Festival massives with an arsenal of his past and recent hits including: Micro Chip, Can't Touch My Soul, African Woman and many more to the delight of the entire SEEN Festival crowd. " We are really appreciative that Prezident Brown could make our festival series a part of his US tour, He is for a fact a consumate professional and a pleasure to work with and we look forward to headlining him in one of our future indoor shows!" exclaimed SEEN Festival producer, promoter and founder; S. Tyrone Ingram (Oonka Symeon) who himself performed earlier in the program to a rousing ovation by all those in attendance. Aside from being one of west coast's and the San Francisco bay area's top reggae concert and festival promoters, Ingram is also the owner of several thriving businesses in the downtown Oakland area. He is for a certainty as world-class an act as any that I've seen here in recent years. He is also currently in the recording studio completing Oonka Symeon's debut CD: Kingpin Fi Sure. Established Drummer and band-leader; Emsley Fraser in my opinon is finally getting his just due through his works in The SEEN Festival series, The Splash Band and with his works with popular reggae diva; Sister I-Live and the 48th Street Band.
Fraser has worked with many "names" in reggae music over the years and this year he certainly brought even more of the "extra" that was needed in this show as he and his band; The Splash Band served a backup to Chicago/Jamaica's sizzlin' hot dancehall newcomer; Risbo and to Jamaican-Canadian dancehall veteran; Mr Major P. who now goes by the moniker of the same name but different spelling: (Mr Majah P.) who himself wowwed the crowda people at SEEN with songs from his latest (3 sons records) CD release: Jahovah; The True and Living God. Like Oonka Symeon, Mr. Majah P. is rapidly becoming one of the hottest dancehall acts on the west coast....someone to have an ear out for, for sure. like always The SEEN Festival is a show that truely gives back to the community in every way. Monies and canned foods were raised benefitting victims of domestic violence and homeless families in the eastbay area and the show also served as a launching pad for such new and up-coming artists like Oakland's R&B singing
sensation; Dante who belted out a couple of nice self written tunes from his current and self entitled debut released CD. Hip hop also made it's way onto the SEEN Festival's stage as another hot newcomer rap artist Samurai started tings off with a very hip and conscious "head-bobbin' stage show that was reminisent of the rapping styles of the early 90's and may be a sleeper in the world of west coast rap. overall The SEEN Festival once showed that reggae and today's soul music can co-exist with a successfully outcome and that Fox Ingram Enterprise and The SEEN Festival is a breath of fresh air and a summer festival series to be rekconed with.

Previous Events: SEEN Festival ' 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005

Future Events: The SEEN Festival 2006...2007...2008...2009...2010...and beyond.

***** SEEN 2001 Festival - REVIEW - *******-****** SEEN 2001 Festival -REVIEW - *****

Jamaican reggae dancehall king; Mr. Major P. Rocks aThe SEEN Festival 2001 Reggae soul Fest @ Berkeley, California's historic People's Park.
Berkeley, California's People's Park has been the site of many historic and news worthy events in the past, some not as pleasant as the others. From the political police-students clashes in the 60's, the flower child hippie days of the early 70's, the volleyball court/parking lot police University student's clash of the 80's and the homeless situation of the 90's. Today however, People's Park has taken on what many consider to be a "new and improved" look. with an abundance of "things to do". park programs and activities catering to everyone from students to children and senior citizens. many cultural arts & music events also have also become a major part of the park's landscape. one of the more major and popular events held there over the past years has been The SEEN Festival; an annual free reggae worldbeat benefit music festival aiding battered women and homeless & displaced families that has been, according to the locals "going strong" since 1997.
In actuality for the sixth year in a row (first show held Aug.1996) in Oakland ) Fox Ingram Enterprise and the SEEN Music Series staged once again, a fantastic reggae festival that brought the bay area reggae music massive out in droves for an afternoon of reggae and worldbeat music and fun under the sun. produced by Oakland festival/concert promoter; S. Tyrone Ingram. In it's short history The SEEN Fest has featured some of the best international and bay area reggae worldbeat acts in the world. this year was no exception as one again Mr ingram brought in a cornucopia of some of the hottest acts to ever perform on People's Park stage in a long, long time. Opening the show was Oakland's well traveled African Storyteller-Folk singer; Ali Ibn Musa who to the delight of those in attendance, did a few selections from his current CD release entitled: "Free Black Ink". This gentleman's unique style of storytelling caught the crowds attention right away and prepared them for things to come from the SEEN 2001 stage. The afternoon's entertainment lineup included sizzling hot Canadian reggae dancehall sensation and featured attraction; Major P. who simply rocked the People's Park crowd with many of his " high-energy" hit songs including; "Mama" as well as songs from his third and current CD release entitled; "Prodigy; The Gifted One". A Jamaican native (White Hall Ave. area) now a resident of Canada (since 1982), Major P. who has shared the stage with and/or opened for the likes of: Freddie McGregor, Bounty Killer, Lady Saw, Bunny Wailer ,Capleton and many other reggae greats of Jamaica and had been wading in the shadows
of some of Jamaica's best since 1982 until in 1992 when he was nominated for "best newcomer and "record of the year" @ The 8th Annual Reggae Music Awards where he had also performed with Tinga Stewart and Lt. Stitchie and then again in 1994 @ The Canadian Reggae Music Awards where he was also crowned "Crowned King of Reggae". yes indeed, this "super-DJ" has taken off. Currently on a west coast - Canadian tour he recently flew into Oakland just days before the SEEN Festival and occasionally flies back and forth between here and The Monterey bay area and Toronto and is hoping to return to the bay area and then to the east coast for more future performances.
" We are very excited about working with 3 Sons Recording artist; Mr. Major P. and his backing band (Loco motive) and are looking forward to a long-term work relationship and are currently looking @ Maritime Hall, Slim's and The Catalyst as possible sites for future showcases...hopefully, before the end of the year ....he and all of our artists are available for booking ya know!" exclaimed jubilant festival promoter; Tyrone S. Ingram who also manages and promote several bay area reggae artist & personalities including; Obeyjah whos debut CD; "Let Jah Rise" was recorded in Jamaica @ Bob Marley's Tuff Gong Studios and is making waves here on the west coast. Another artist managed by Ingram The Incredible Sly Fox who wowwed the SEEN Festival crowd with his very conscious and spiritually smooth roots reggae vocals that had a light twist of R&B. along with another hot reggae soul singer on the rise; Oonka Symeon who is featured on many an artist's project around the bay including DJ Collage, BasBombing Soundz, Jeremy Mage, Aladdin, Pam Pam "The Imposing Figure", Tremendoe, C.R.G. and Poopa T joined The Incredible Sly Fox on stage with his very cool baritone in a medley of rootsy tunes as well as a spirited rendition of The Incredible Sly Fox's current single; "This is the time". where he was also joined on stage by world soul singer Geo who earlier in the day, did an ol skool soul tune that had the ladies swoonin "they all were totally awesome!" shouted a group of female festival goers who said that they were attending their 3rd. SEEN Festival @ People's Park. Another dynamic entertainer who had the crowd of approx. 2500+ up and dancing was Haitian worldbeat artist; Wawa Sylvestre' & The Oneness Kingdom Band. Wawa, who was on crutches (recovering from knee surgery), was simply phenomenal on stage and on the djembe drums. his hard driving Afro-Trinidad-Haitian world dance style was certainly a sound to be reckoned with.
Likewise can be said about his current CD release; "Oneness" which is climbing the world music charts and is currently available @ several bay area record stores including Amoeba's records in Berkeley. going on before Wawa, was bay area veteran blues songstress: Victoria Fox who in the past has worked with the likes of The Rev. James Cleveland and Brenda Vaughn. Fox strutted her stuff with some of her sassy "Fremont blues" that brought roars from the crowd SEEN 2001 also marked MS Fox's second SEEN Fest appearance, the other was SEEN 99. Another veteran bay area reggae music veteran: Ras I-Word, who had the ever growing-crowd abuzz and gave an electrifying performance in this also, his second SEEN Fest appearance.
Renowned bay area spoken word artist: Joy Holland recited a nice 10 minute piece ala Mutabaruka. Holland is making a lot of headway here in the bay area with her "one woman show" coming later this month (Aug. 25th.) to The Black Reperatory Theater in Berkeley. showing a lot of support this year was Oakland California's Soulbeat TV's KSBT ch. 27 also came out and showed plenty of support. in the past Soulbeat TV has proven to be very supportive of community events. Popular Soulbeat news anchor and veteran reggae music events MC: Joan Savoury ("Newsbeat") also MC-ing her second SEEN in a row. widely known as a TV personality on Oakland's KSBT ch. 27, Savoury has also done her share of reggae music promotions over the years, working with the likes of; Frankie Paul , Edi Fitzroy and Everton Blender just to name a few. "Joan did a great job and I would love it if she (or someone of her professional caliber) were to do it on a permanent basis, we're on an upswing of sorts" explained the very optomistic Ingram who was on hand to acknowlege the many TV personalities on board from the popular and growing Oakland based TV network. also appearing was Al Ballard (host of: Soul Showcase) and the equally popular "Nightdawg" along with female soul singer: Jay Jay Johnson who sang a few solid cuts from her Internet released CD entitled*. SEEN Fest's co-MC wa
