ARTICLE WARNS FAMILIES TO TAKE SPECIAL CARE
IN SELECTING HOME FOR ELDERLY LOVED ONE
Too Much, Too Soon Halts Assisted-Living Boom

The New York Times
May 28, 2000, Sunday, Late Edition -
"The industry is generally not opposed
to regulation (it is easier to market
government-certified homes),
but it prefers to have it imposed by state
lawmakers, who are easier to lobby."
Further the article states:
"But for now, families may want to
exercise an extra measure of caution when
choosing a home. "The intense pressure to show
profit margins created enormous
pressures to keep staffing to a minimum,'
Mr. Redfoot said. "You want to make
sure that the place is adequately staffed."

CHOOSING THE NURSING HOME
"DO YOUR HOMEWORK!"
CHECK OUT STATE ASSESSMENTS, PAST AND PRESENT
Choosing a good nursing home
for your loved one requires research,
scrutiny and meditation
before the family and the elderly person
make such a crucial decision.
For the elderly loved one to gain maximum benefit,
more criteria
than proximity to family and availability of beds,
need to be assessed.
The following information
will help guide you through
this often very difficult process.
Remember
it is okay to be "choosy"
as this will be the daily environment
and new "home" away from "home"
to your loved one and for many,
their final residency on this earth.
Make it as good a choice as can possibly be,
one that will respect the elder with dignity and grace.

BOTH PAST AND PRESENT CAN BE FOUND
