Sue Carter has reported to "Saving Grace"
that Vencor has dismissed this suit against her.
We are leaving this information on the site
to bring awarenss to how far some nursing homes
will go.
What is very interesting is that nursing homes
have rallied to stop suits against nursing homes
in the state of Florida.
See information on Florida Rally Page
which is Under Construction.
Thanks.

 SUPPORT SUE CARTER-LEGAL FUND

"You all have heard that Sue Carter is
being sued by Vencor for slander,
filing substantiated complaints and other BS,
even though the Vencor's Record with the state
shows this is a horrible facility,
still even though this is a message to all advocates,
Sue needs to defend herself.
Kevin McLean, (God Bless the goodness of this man,
since he was the only attorney to come to Sue's aid)
we need to help out with the litigation costs.
Please, all of us need to sit down
right now and write a check to Kevin to help out.
Send any amount you can afford to

HEADLINE: Nursing home sues former employee;
ST. PETERSBURG - A former employee fights
a nursing home that moves to
silence her allegations of poor care
ARTICLE SUMMARY
According to the Tampa Tribune article,
Karol Sue Carter,
a former nurses aide at
Abbey Rehabilitation Center,
owned by Vencor, Inc.
is being sued for calling
the state abuse hot line, St. Petersburg police
and the news media to
report such issues
as too few aides to care for residents.
The Tampa Tribune reports that this
"is what she did October 9, and it's the focus of
Vencor's lawsuit to restrain
Carter from visiting the Abbey"
"In the lawsuit",The Tampa Tribune,
continues to report,
"filed Jan. 6, in Pinellas County Civil Court ,
Vencor said Carter
unlawfully interrupted employees
trying to do their jobs,
'wrongfully informed'
the public that the care was inadequate
and damaged the company's reputation."
Plus, the Tribune says,
Vencor "took issue with Carter
calling government agencies
with her complaints",
and quotes Abbey's administrator Elizabeth McGinley,
as saying,
"The facility is simply trying
to protect residents
and employees from harrassment."
According to the Tampa Tribune,
Carter has recently
started Your Guardian Angel,
a business that offers to
"help monitor care of loved
ones in nursing homes,"
and continues to report that
"Carter said she 's
the one being harrassed."
Barbara Hengstebeck
of the Coalition to Protect America's Elders
is also reported in The Tampa Tribune,
as saying "This is nothing more than harrassment.
They're trying to intimidate her."
The most disturbing aspect of the article
"Nursing home sues former employee",
is that it points out while
suing Ms. Carter for
reporting conditions at this home,
"state inspection records show serious problems
at the home in the last two years," and that
"In January 1999, it was one of five nursing
homes named to the states
'Get Up or Get Out List'".
As recently as Oct, 22,
the Tampa Tribune reports that
"inspectors found more problems" and
"recommended fining the home for being dirty."
In closing, the Tampa Tribune
reported that Carter said,
"I'm not the one who has hurt their reputation....
This is all public knowledge."

Tracking Abuse In Nursing Homes
Many Homes Cited For Serious Violations
One Woman Accused Caretaker Of Abuse

For many family members, who live far enough
from their elderly loved ones,
that we cannot visit
on a daily basis,
the rise of such businesses
as Sue Carter's GUARDIAN ANGELS are the
answer to our worries and concerns.
In fact, we not only hire
these persons to visit our
loved ones, but we have expectations
that they will
do just what Ms. Carter has done
if they see a problem.
We should watch this case carefully, for
the outcome could depend
on whether or not these
businesses thrive.
It is also important, as to be punished
if and when, one makes a complaint,
will certainly deter
the ability of
families and concerned citizens
and friends from remaining the "Watchdog" on an
industry that is
certainly greatly troubled
and in a crisis.
If this natural 'watchdog' system is
compromised, the elderly
and other residents have
little to rely on but yearly inspections
which of course are
getting their fair share of
scrutiny and criticism.
The possible repurcussions
to the elderly and
their families and any other
good citizen participating
in active citizenry, if Vencor should succeed,
is frigntening to say the least!
