   VIOLET KING OF NURSING HOME MONITORS REPORTS ILLINOIS  Nursing Home MonitorsViolette King 6111 Vollmer Lane Godfrey, Illinois 62035 Phone/Fax: (618) 466-3410 618-466-3410 OR E-MAIL vkmonitor@earthlink.net From Southern Illinois: This has to be a first!!Numerous complaints that an Alzheimer’s patient was urinating in her husband's bed and on his floor and on him and that he had tried to choke him etc., were routinely ignored by administration. Wife entered the nursing home last month and saw the Alzheimer's patient beating her husband on the head in the dinning room. The home refused to take him to the hospital. A staff member said: “He will never let him go to the hospital in this condition” referring to the owner. The resident’s daughter and his grandchild were also there. The wife had a camera and was preparing to take a picture when the owner, trying to get to the wife in order to get the camera, attacked the daughter with a severe blow to the middle of the back to get her out of his way. She was felled to the floor and her leg began to convulse uncontrollably. The owner was screaming all the while at the staff: "Get that camera if you want your job" Staff pinned the wife and grandson up against the wall with tables and chairs injuring both, as the owner was twisting her thumb back and banging her hand against the table in order to get the camera. In excruciating pain the wife, bit him to save her thumb. In the meantime the daughter was on the floor with her leg convulsing. She had just come out of the hospital from back surgery. Wife and daughter had to be hospitalized. Wife with hand and leg injuries from being smashed up against the wall, daughter with spine injury. Grandson was treated for cervical sprain and released. (Oh, the owner got the camera). The family managed to call the police, BUT guess who got BATTERY charges filed against them folks? Right! The wife. Who else? Now they are facing court dates, etc. Resident was taken out the next AM to another facility after much interference from facility which isolated him and tried to get him to sign papers, etc. This cognizant stroke victim was in nursing home for 4 months. Never had a Care Plan Meeting. Horribly understaffed. (Had another stroke while at nursing home, and they refused to take him to hospital). Routinely unplugged heat in ½ rooms to save on heat, leaving the patients freezing, and much, much, more. This family is interested in filing a lawsuit. IF YOU HAVE FELT THAT THE NURSING HOME HAS TRIED TO STOP OR RETALIATE AGAINST YOU WHEN YOU REPORTED THEIR NEGLECT AND ABUSE PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL ADVOCACY GROUP AND TELL YOUR STORY HERE. ALTHOUGH THESE INCIDENTS REPORTED BY "SAVING GRACE" AS ALERTS ARE THE MORE SALIENT ACTIONS ON THE PART OF NURSING HOMES TO SILENCE THE FAMILY AND ONES WHO CARE, THERE ARE MANY STORIES OF OTHERS WHO HAVE FELT THEY WERE VICTIMIZED IN SOME WAY WHEN THEY TRIED TO HELP THEIR ELDERLY LOVED ONE.
