April 4: INCREDIBLE NEWS

PHILIP RAY WORKMAN HAS BEEN GRANTED A STAY FROM THE 6th CIRCUIT

36 hours before his scheduled execution, after he was denied a brand new trial by a three-judge panel; after the hearings before a representative from the Governor where he made a tremendous plea, askinkg for justice, Philip Workman has been granted a six weeks stay.
Other judges from the 6th Circuit want to review his case. Their answer will come in May, and Philip Workman will have new hearings. If he is denied again, appeals will succeed to appeals and his attorneys will go immediately to the US Supreme Court.
In case of loosing again, Philip Workman's case would, then, come back to the Governor.
But this is expected for October, not before.

We don't sing Victory until being sure that the victory is there, but frieds, fingers crossed, that is the best new we could expect!

FRIENDS, you still can write to the Governor, letting him know you are aware of what is happening, but because of all the new evidence, you beg im to grant clemency to Philip Workman. You still can send letters to the three newspapers which, for sure, will welcome your comments:

We can suggest you a letter -a draft as we say- for you to compose your own letter to the Governor:

Dear Governor
Philip Ray Workman has been granted a stay from the 6th Circuit. Nevertheless, I want to tell you I fully support clemency for Philip Workman and the absolute need for this case to be back before 12 jurors. How can Tennessee consider executing a man when a number of the original jurors adamantly state that they couldn't have voted for a verdict of felony murder, let alone given a death sentence, had the original Defense presented the forensic ballistic evidence that has now been obtained from several experts? And what about a major state witness who recently recanted? And what about this X-ray from Lt Oliver which has been withheld from the Court and the defense team? Philip Workman has been found guilty of the murder of Lt Ronald Oliver partly because the prosecutors, following a medical report, did say that his .45 caliber bullet did fragment into Oliver's body -a theory to explain the very small exit wound a .45 caliber bullet would never have caused (this type of bullet expands into the body and leaves a larger exit wound than the entrance wound). The X-ray now shows without no doubt that the bullet was a through-and-through anddin't fragment into Lt Oliver's body.
If this case was so obvious, then why both Lt Oliver's daughter, Ms Paula Dodillet and ex-wife -two women I deeply respect for the dull pain and the loss they have experienced- would, as they do, ask for clemency? Lt Oliver's daughter even video-taped a statement -or, much more: a plea asking you to grant clemency to Philip Workman and asking for further investigations in her father's death. We could see her with Michelle Workman (Philip Workman's daughter) in Nashville, creating a wonderful and incredible partnership.
With the new evidence (ballistic tests showing with NO DOUBT that Philip Workman's gun couldn't have fired the fatal bullet, X-ray proving the same thing), with a perjured testimony, a miscarriage of justice is showing its terrible shadow. State Tennessee didn't execute anybody since 40 years. It would be horrible to resume executions with such a disturbing case!
Dear Governor,I beg you to grant clemency to Philip Workman, innocent of capital murder.
Sincerely,
NAME, ADDRESS, E-MAIL- SIGNATURE

GOVERNOR DON SUNDQUIST
State Capitol
Nashville, TN, 37243-0001
